Forum community challenges ♟

I’d like to see what kind of challenges the forum folk can come up with.

What do I mean? Well for example, when one plays the campaign, you only need to complete the objectives to win, but you can try to go against the devs wishes, and try to defeat the level another way.

Take the fountain level in Morgans act, if you destroy the fountain, it’s over, but you can try destroying THE FORT.
If you do, the AI will SPAWN a large army as you make your way through the fort, and if you are not careful, it will mess you up.

Btw, I’m not sure how the coding for that is, but I remember an instance where the AI spawned like 200 units on top of my army and then proceeded to destroy my base hahah.

So, how else can we mix the gameplay?

  • Trying to flip the scales at “The last stand of Fushimi”?
  • Losing ZERO UNITS at the art of war artillery trial?
  • LEVELING THE ENTIRE MAP at Algiers?

As for multiplayer challenges, I’ve seen one where you play only with the cards your enemy chooses hahah
Any takers? :v

This was back before DE, I think in late 2018. I think the crossbow spam was a big part of my strategy, but I don’t fully remember.

Edit:

I think there were some crazy unit waves as I pushed the main base.

Edit 2:

Thinking about it, I think the crossbow spam was in a second run where I forward built hard as I went. I also think I killed all the walls once but I don’t think I have a photo of it. I might have to do another run.

What’s the highest number of DE AI’s that an individual has managed to solo? I know people used to cheese the vanilla ai and beat it in a 1v7, I wonder if anyone has pulled off a similar thing in DE?

I do wonder what civ you’d want for such a game now. I saw a video on RE with French insta-Cuirs after a lot of wall cheese. insta Cuirs would be a lot weaker even if you choose a map specifically to have the option.

Aztec for building spam?
Ottomans for Ottoman things?
Portuguese for Organ Guns and extra TCs to maybe survive age 2?
Perhaps Mexico for some revolt build?

Sunbros do a treasure hunt event every year that’s pretty fun, where the goal is to get all the treasures in a map faster than anyone else. It’s a fun change of pace

Someone (ffp?) Did a random deck event as well.

Also age1 only can be interesting

Everyone plays French or USA? Or is British the play because of manors?

Them coureur des bois hahah, seen a few fights like that.

Never managed to kill past 3 extreme AI, you have to spam walls to distract them.

This one, them organ guns and Brazil free revolutionaries.

You’d think French but hausa and ethopia can do well, and TWC can spam militia

It’s actually a bit dynamic bit i think you gotta house rule a few things. Like towers.

I hadn’t considered towers. Is town ceremony (the ceremony not the card) available in age 1? Thinking about it, Aztecs could set themselves up with trainable Jaguars, Eagle Scouts, a WC, militia spam, while having pioneers and fertility ceremony for faster vill massing.

Took the Circle’s base over (on hard) and then destroyed the fountain of youth the way the devs intended lol.

Btw the fully upgraded outposts require Heavy Fortifications from the home city which I was fortunate enough to have previously unlocked.

Another challenge could be beat the final level of the Amelia Black campaign without using the late US navy (ie delete the frigates and monitors when they finally arrive and don’t make more). I might have done this once, but monitors are how you deal with the obnoxious number of fixed guns normally.

I never realized that the US gives you the boats back every 60 seconds if they go down.
Kanyen knew nothin :v

Anyway, challenge completed, even deleted my initial boats so i couldn’t use them as barracks.
Turns out, not that tough a fight, specially since you can still capture the fixed guns when near, and they can attack the other fixed guns for you.

You just need a bunch of siege artillery and a LOT of cannon fodder to distract the fixed guns (Yellow’s fishing operation worked for that)

Didn’t get the native post since, no boats, but I do wonder if you can capture it by using a scout balloon on top of it…
