Franks were considered weak in the original game. How did they become strong?

I don’t think they were bad, they had the strongest Paladin and cheap Castles, these are very good bonuses, but the majority considered them weak.

They are number one now in popularity ranking:

because they were 1 dimensional and had nothing to boost them up into the castle age.
now they have the berry bonus + hp bonus on scouts. the berry bonus propels them into feudal age where the farm bonus actually kicks in, combined with scouts that don’t require bloodlines to win allows them to get to castle and win there.

Let’s not forget they also got one of the most Powerful CA UTs in Chivalry. Faster upgrades and Knights is insane.

Far too many buffs.

not really. they were downright terrible before the buff. you touch up the berry bonus a little bit and Franks are fine as a civ.
