:arrow_forward: ISSUE EXPERIENCED

During gameplay, the game suddenly freezes and becomes unresponsive. It also begins eating up memory at a rapid pace. If the game isn’t shut down before all memory is used up, the entire computer becomes unresponsive. At that point, one of 2 things happens:

  1. A long time passes, until eventually the computer starts responding and the game starts responding, and the game zoooooooms forwards to make up for all the time it lost (none of the in-game objects respond to input until the game is “caught up”)
  2. (This is the most consistent result recently) A long time passes (usually 30-60 minutes), until eventually the game crashes and the computer becomes responsive again.

100% of the time / matches I play (ALWAYS)
This issue occurs on both of my computers, so it’s probably not hardware-related.

:arrow_forward: REPRODUCTION STEPS

Start a skirmish in one of my scenarios (attached). Play it for a while and it’ll happen anywhere from 15-90 minutes in.
(I have tested these scenarios with all triggers removed, and the bug still occurs.)

:arrow_forward: EXPECTED RESULT

The game doesn’t freeze or crash.

Here’s a link to a google drive folder with the two scenarios and several replays. Each of these replays ended in the same way as the screenshot above.

Yep, I’ve noticed this too, below are screen shots taken of my task manager memory usage at various timestamps though the match. The last picture was taken around 1 hour and 30 minutes of gameplay, when 2 freezes already occurred, likely due to memory issues.

The freeze doesn’t just affect 1 player, all players freeze at the same time, and the players with faster computers unfreeze faster, giving them a competitive edge, if playing ranked as you can immagine

Is that Windows 11 you’re using? I guess this happens on multiple operating systems…

Yes it does, there is a memory leak the team is investigating.

I’ve done some more testing. The memory leaks faster when the map is larger/more complex. It leaked so fast for me because my scenario maps were very detailed and ludicrous-sized, but when this happens on random map maps, the memory usage increases much slower. Therefore, I believe this bug has something to do with map/terrain data being loaded into memory, possibly in an infinite loop.

This is an interesting theory

I thought everyone was experiencing the lag in multiplayer, but ifs main just complex maps like scenarios, then it makes sense I experience it almost every game when the game goes past 1 hour, as the map has 4k+ triggers, some with over 2k effects

The bug has been fixed now.
It turned out it was because of the GamesGod AI I was using. So I contacted the AI’s author about it and they have now fixed whatever was causing this bug.

UPDATE: I tried using a different AI, still had the freezing issue where everyone lags for up to 3 minutes at a time, and then the game fast forwards to catch up

Are there specific AI scripts that are causing the bug?

it crashed again, hotfix didnt mention anything about fixing memory leak and crashes related to it so looks like not all crashes are fixed yet…
