It’s just stupid to say that people should log out, because then, as a logged out user, you have no saved games or settings. What is the point in logging out? I want to play this game on xbox while logged into my microsoft account. From what I recall 2 months ago, it’s not even possible to play the game as a guest. Logging out just means I’m stuck on the first screen. Maybe in 1 month they will release a patch to fix this. I don’t know their schedule, but perhaps every 3-5 months they release a major update to fix the biggest problems (while also generating some new ones).
Oh, the game works for me. I just passed a mission in Battle For Greece. No freezes now. Cool.
Turned out it wasnt fix quickly, still same Problems, you see Scouts, you wanna quickwall, freezes scouts are in youre woodline… you lure boar, vill thanks pathing takes a route around the moon, you try house trick, freezes, vill dies, boar walks back
Logging out is not a fix for me. I’m logged out and yet the micro-stutters happen. I think the game needs patching. I experience it several times per match, throughout the match. It seemed really bad the last time I played
i’d try deleting the meta data.
often after several crashes over the years stuff gets corrupted. sometimes even files within steam folder as well and updating game/check files doesn’t fix it at least from my experience.
That’s unrelated, as are the freezes when being signed into Xbox. The new kind of micro-freezes is being investigated here: Problems with game stuttering (most reproducibly when units are trained)
In summary, they are caused by a very recent change (Khitan Balance Patch) and happen, for example, when units spawn.
it can be related, and it can also be unrelated. since you have nothing concrete, it doesn’t hurt OP to try. literally takes 10 seconds to do.
I found a solution, but on Windows 10, log out of Microsoft acount if you’re playing on Steam. I play a lot vs. AI. The game will become easier. I don’t understand why. The AIs are harder when I’m logged in to Microsoft, but the problem is that the game freezes a lot. You don’t lose anything by trying.
Micro-stutters aside, you’re saying the AI difficulty is actually different depending on if you are logged in or not? That doesn’t seem good. Sounds like a bug to me
PS: Logging out doesn’t fix micro-stutters for me, unfortunately
Where is the meta data located?
C:\Users(user name)\Games\Age of Empires 2 DE\metadata
it’ll delete some settings such as UI size, scroll speed etc
Oddly, I don’t seem to have that folder. Not there, and not in my Steam directory for the game. Oh well!
C:\Users(user name)\Games\Age of Empires 2 DE
missed a slash there
Thank you, but that wouldn’t have caused me to overlook where you were pointing. I will double-check soon, as maybe I was blind
then its prob folder hidden. u need to make hidden folder show in explorer settings.
also im on windows 8, not sure if they would change directory differently for windows 11, i also have 10 and its the same path
I just tested the July PUP beta and the issue is still there. Screen freezes every 5-10 minutes for 2-3 seconds but I can still move my cursor. Issue in both SP and MP. Logging out of Xbox does not work. I’ve noticed that the GPU usage drops to 0% when those freezes happen. This has been happening since the April patch.
I replaced my GPU to RTX4070, performed a clean install on my SSD, upgraded RAM, played with settings and still nothing. I have an i7-6700, 4070, 32GB, and 1TB SSD.
Just come across this article and what I’m experiencing is described by others here. I’ve had issues with the game lagging periodically for 4 months or so and before that it rang fine. My machine is the same, the only change was adding more RAM.
It started with small freezes of 1-2 seconds but has now progressed to 5 sometimes 10 seconds and pretty regularly. Sometimes it lags into 5 seconds of activity into another lag. It occasionally entirely freezes where nothing moves but most of the time goes slowly and then speeds up. Often it sends up slowly scrolling my screen to one side and i have to move back before carrying on. Friday as an example I had an Axeman group move forwards, saw a Cavalier army coming, game froze, couldn’t move them back and they walked into annihilation and I was unable to do anything.
I’ve gotten pretty fed up to the point of considering stopping playing (this is multiplayer and campaigns) as it just becomes too frustrating to play. 20-30 mins of playing time ruined because I can’t respond.
These days I get lag starting in dark age and it gets worse the longer it goes. I gave up playing archers with micro not an option which i used to love as it’s just impossible to play. One period of lag and I’d lose most of my army.
Seems like this has been around for ages and I really hope it gets looked at soon… Not had issues playing any other games at all.
Out of curiosity, I went back and read it. I have the game on Steam. I opened it on Steam and then logged into my Microsoft account. It started freezing again. I understand that while we’re playing, data is collected about how we play. I think the problem lies with the Microsoft account, since when we play, it collects data about how we play against the AI. My problem is solved by logging out of the Microsoft account. It’s extremely annoying, especially when playing multiplayer, when the game freezes for 3 seconds, sometimes 5 seconds. It ruins the gaming experience. I hope you can find a quick solution.
I also logged out xbox in main menu (game is on steam) and stop having the issue
