Not a clear/easy fix for this, but Iām looking into it. Will hopefully find a workable solution.
One other Idea, what if there was a unit that cost 20 food, but whose purpose was to garrison in castles and towers so that it added extra arrows?(call it a guardsman/watchman/lookout?)
I am pretty sure that garrisoning either villagers or units trained from the [Archery Range] already helps with boosting the attack of towers and castles, but except for that they also fulfill other roles as well than just being a unit that improves the attack of a defensive building. Therefore having a unit whose sole purpose is to garrison inside buildings would be a very restrictive unit.
If you want a defensive unit then maybe there could be a unit called the [Amusette Bombardier] or the [Rampart Bombardier]. The Amusette or Rampart gun, or more commonly known as the āWall gunā, was apparently a type of firearm that was used by defending forces from the 16th to the 18th century. This weapon filled a gap in firepower between the musket and the lightest artillery pieces.
The [Amusette Bombardier] or the [Rampart Bombardier] can act similar to a [Trebuchet] where it has to unpack in order to be used. And when it is unpacked close to your buildings or your allies buildings its attack will be boosted. It will essentially function as some kind of mobile turret that can be deployed almost anywhere on the map.
