Fuxi depiction in Retold?

Fuxi can be represented in different ways. Either with a serpent tail (as seen in TotD), intertwined with Nawu, or with animal skins. Does any1 know why they chosen to a) make him much older than Nuwa, and b) represent him without a tail and Nuwa with a tail?

They look a little disconnected from their portrait portrayal now. I think I prefer them both having tails and being of a similar age as shown in TotD. The serpent tail definitely gave them a uniquely awesome aura. This representation isn’t as powerful/ impactful.

They are also brother and sister. Fuxi is the big brother and Nyuwa is the little sister.

The huge cobra in Fuxi’s background is more eyecatching.

There’s no cobra in the traditional range of Chinese myth, so cobras aren’t part of Chinese symbology. OTOH it’s associated with the naga from Indian myth. What does it signify? We’ll probably never get an answer.
