When my game crashes at game start, it just closes. No error message, nothing.
I looked into the logs and this is what i could find:


What does this even tell me? Where is the error? Why does the game close?

@GMEvangelos I also have this issue, is it possible to look into the reason it crashes. I dont understand my logfile when it crash and it doesnt give any error message like the guy above mentioned.

game just closes and then nothing.

9/10 ranked games i played today, someone disconnected/game crashed on my team or the other team.

If the devs would want to fix the game, they would add a proper crash log system. Literally any message to why exactly the game closes would help solve the issues everyone is having.
Simply making the game close with no message at all just leaves everyone clueless ->the devs and the players.

NEW UPDATE:
I just found out something very odd. I created a new local mod with a random data file, then i took and copied ALL the units, graphics and sounds into it and suddenly it stopped crashing
This is not a solution to my bug report tho. Just thought it might help you finding the issue.
How come it stops crashing even tho i use the exact graphics and sounds and units as the previous one?
I have a feeling the crashes will return soon tho

Normally you use the basic logging. The devs can give players the option to have advanced logging. That will result in much more data. This is what GMEvangelos said in another thread:

I responded i got access to the advanced logging. Maybe this is also an option for this error. Maybe you can send GMEvangelos a private message with the request to get this access, so you can generate some advanced logs for the devs.

Just had another crash and this is the log

i also have crashes. game just disspaers in an istant and back at the desktop. no error, no trace i ever played. quite frustrating. i didnt juse any datamod, was playing a custom scenario online.

Hey friends! I’m afraid that Windows 8 is not officially supported, so I don’t have any perfect or proven answers for you. I can say that our community has managed to launch the game on older platforms such as Windows 7 by following the steps in this thread:

I would recommend starting there and then taking the time to update all of your Windows Updates, Visual Studio, and antivirus programs. I would also recommend removing any mods that might be preventing the game from launching—if only to verify that you can get the vanilla game to play. You can do so on the age of empires website, here:

If all else fails, I would consider updating your operating system to Windows 10 to ensure that you meet the requirements to play the game. At that point, you will also be able to reach out to our support team for assistance with any issues that arise.

how can we have access to advance logging?

The errors with the Comm have been appearing atleast for me after the update on the 20th. While i can launch the game and play with the big issue i am having, being a connection drop every other game (This is on games on USWest so not only happening in Brazil), sometimes back to back, the errors are in line with what we are seeing in our logs as well.

Also the game doesn’t fail to start. It runs just fine most of the times. It crashes sometimes during gameplay and only after some time has already passes, like around when I reach Castle age.

I only play online so no idea about Singleplayer.

I checked your link but I think you misunderstood my problem.

It does not crash on launch or shortly after.

I can play for hours es without crashed sometimes, but other times it crashes in game after some time (like half an hour) but never shortly after like in the topic you linked me

That’s why I suggested maybe ram ran out.

I will go trough the steps anyway…

I tried the steps again, this is probably the 2nd time i’ve done this thinking the steps have updated but still no help. the crashes for me are random, usually 1-1.5 hr into the game, sometimes 45 mins which the support link doesn’t really help me there.

do you need log files to check into it?

Hello I still got occasional crashed. According to the game log it is:

Exception type 0xc0000005 occurred at 00007ff695072bdd, which indicates a memory access violation.

I know this is a nightmare to debug (as a developer myself) but i suggest that it is not related to my hardware. THe game disappering in a flash is a typical behaviour of c programm when a memory violations cuase crashes.

I was playing a scneario the 2 recent times this happened.
