Game doesn't start (aoe2de.exe process after a few seconds it closes)

OS: Windows 10

Since yesterday morning, the game has suddenly stopped launching.
I press the icon, the launcher window appears, etc. The aoe2de.exe process appears open, but after a few seconds it closes.

I’ve tried numerous solutions: restarting the PC, restoring the app, uninstalling/redownloading the game, using administrator mode, updating drivers, etc., but the problem persists and I can’t play.

The game is the Microsoft Store version, and I’m having the same problem with Age of Empires IV (Microsoft Store), while Age of Empires 3 DE (Microsoft Store) and Age of Empires 1 DE (Steam) launch fine.

Have you checked the logs to see what the error might be?
C:\Users\[yourusername]\Games\Age of Empires 2 DE\[yourgameid]\logs\

It was one of the first things I did.

Anyway, to fix it, I formatted the PC directly, but another problem occurred… :smiley:

Sorry to hear that. It does indeed appear to be a problem on Microsoft’s end with GamePass…
Hopefully the Devs will reply soon to your bug report!
