Could you explain this issue to us? Which game mode are you playing? what do you mean by “lock up”? Is that the game freeze or crash?

Do you have a video or save we can look at?

Cannot seem to be able attached the rec.aoe2record file. Game freezes after 30 to 40 minutes of play and becomes unresponsive.

Hi again!

Before anything, I would like to ask you two steps:

  1. Can you try to verify your files in the Steam Library? Age of Empires II → Right button → Properties → Local files. (If you have Microsoft Store, you should reinstall it). This will fix any error that might be causing the freeze after a long playing period.

  2. Disable your mods and restart the game after that. The issue is often triggered by an active mod and not the game itself.

Try playing the game for 40 minutes after these two steps and let us know if the issue remains.
If the issue remains, please attach the save file to gofile.io.

I’ve been haing this issue too.

It only occurs when boats attack sometimes

It will cause a very long lag , sometimes 3-5 minutes in length, so many people disconnect, due to thinking their game froze forever

I will try to verify my files and deactivate as many mods as I can, and try again, but this only occurs since the latest hotfix about 2 weeks ago, which should of increased stability, but in this case, it made things worse.

I’ve verified my game files, and removed the mods, and still am freezing after about 1 hour of gameplay when fighting ships

We are currently investigating this issue with the freezing game. As you said it comes back to work after a few minutes. Thanks for the information, it is good to know that one of the triggers could be the ships.

This map has been tested 1000’s of times, and no issues until after the May 16, 2024 update
