Game not starting

Can’t open game. Get a message: “Check the Windows Store for more info about Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition.” Went to store and updated all apps–still not working. Hit play from store window and get same message. Tried click reinstall–button goes grey and takes long time to get to another message about "will install in default location, but it freezes there.
The game was working ok before,this is something new.

This is not an issue of the game, as you stated in the message, the problem is with Windows Store.

Whenever you get an error message, the best is to google it for more information. For example in this case, when you google it, you will find an article on the official website with steps to follow:
Microsoft Store: Clicking ‘Install’ or ‘Play’ redirects to the Microsoft Gaming Services app rather than downloading or launching the game

If these steps don’t work, please contact Microsoft support as this is an issue from their platform.

Thank you for the reply. Yes I thought so.

To anyone reading this take my hard earned advice and do not buy the Microsoft Store version of the game, definitely buy the Steam version instead. I own both. Bought the Steam version after much frustration with the store version.

Have had various problems with store updates, login in to xbox (game doesn’t run without it), etc. Plus it’s hard to mod the Ui for example because it forces you to install in a protected (and hidden) folder that’s very hard to edit. Also Capture Age and PUPs don’t work with the MS store version. The Steam version just works, no problems or restrictions!
