Game Time Desync in Multiplayer

  • Game Version: v.100.18.27100.0

  • Build Number: 551388R

  • Platform: Steam

  • Operating System: Windows 10

Issue:

When I play multiplayer with my friend, if we have 10 bots (+2 humans = 12 players total) or sometimes 8 bots (10 players total) on maps with lots of trees, I will end up at a game time behind where my friend is at (for example, my in-game clock might say 30:00 while my friend says he’s at 31:30). When I give commands, cast god powers, or anything, it happens on his end right away but it won’t happen for me until I get to the game time he was at when I did the command.

Incidentally, I also get a really low benchmark score (sometimes around 300 but sometimes literally as low as 10 sometimes, which seems way too low for what I actually observe during the test and for what my specs are at low settings). Specs are:

i5-9300H CPU 2.4ghz (4 cores 8 processors)
16GB RAM
GTX 1650 GPU

The weird thing is, my older computer with even lower specs gets a higher benchmark at around 850 and DOESN’T experience the desync issue (just single digit frame rates, as expected for an old computer).

Trigger Event:

It doesn’t seem to happen due to any one thing in particular. It seems to eventually happen when a large match gets to late game enough.

Repro Steps:

  1. Host a multiplayer game with at least one other human player. Add 8-10 bots.
  2. Start and play the game as usual.
  3. Eventually you’ll start getting massive input delay and be behind the other player.

To update this, I tried disabling the nvidia in-game overlay and I tried lowering the resolution of my computer on the desktop (as opposed to just in the in-game settings). The former didn’t do much I think, but the latter allowed me to get a benchmark score of 1200 (as opposed to being stuck at 10 a lot of the time) and improved my frame rate as well, even if I bumped some settings up to medium. I haven’t tried multi yet to see if it helps the game time desync glitch, but I’m hopeful!

Edit: Lowering the resolution does appear to have fixed the game time desync issue!
