I’ve reached the Set, and I’d like to point out that he surpasses Loki in his divine powers. His scouting is fantastic (not to mention that Egypt has the best scouting of all).
However, I’d like to talk about some animals.
Pay attention to the damage dealt and the number of kills.
They’re completely useless in combat. Gazelles and giraffes have 20 HP. Only starting at Mythic you get units equal in strength to a single spearman. Furthermore, the Set’s animals are nerfed compared to wild animals.
According to Steam data, only 3.9% of players were able to deal 2000 damage with the Set’s animals (myself included).
I really don’t understand why they nerfed HP.
Currently, Set’s special ability is to obtain food crates for favor. It’s not bad, but pointless. It’s better to order an extra Anubit than to waste favor on animals. They don’t benefit from any upgrades and remain the same throughout the game. The developers added an elephant of set, which destroys buildings in the Mythic Age. Instead of an elephant, you can order a scarab if you really need to destroy buildings for favor.
The entire unique mechanic ends with stealing a stack of deer from the opponent within the first 5 minutes. Then Set transforms into Ra with discounted units.
This makes me a little sad.
P.S.
I would also like to point out that Anubis’s serpents are not so strong that their damage to vills should be reduced by 90%.
Because set was very oppresive in AoT with its animals. Applyng early preassure. It also doesnt help his unique tech changed and now theres no way to upgrade its animals. So they got double nerf in a sense.
Thou i do like being able to spam visión for free to get map info constantly
The only “buff” they got is that héroes no longer have bonus vs them but they are so weak its not important either way, they are paper fragile.
They really are only worth as a food source now sadly.
Set can keep hunting for all the game, but it takes quite the micro and macro, which is one of the reasons he has a high skill floor to be played properly.
Yes, yes they are. With how fast you can advance with set, if serpents deal full damage to villagers you would iddle and opponents gold for quite a while. Its one of the reasons they keep recieving nerfs for both its land and water spawns.
Cough Greek Pegasus cough
I think Set could be made more interesting by dividing animals into “food” and “soldiers.” Keep everything the same for the gazelle, but the hyena would get base+10% health but an additional -20% food. That would be fun.
I feel he’s much stronger than Loki and even slightly stronger than Hades, both of whom I’ve played 30+ games with. His only weakness, like all Egyptians, is the lack of cavalry and archers in classic, which makes them very vulnerable to classic infantry/archer combos. Especially if the enemy has chiroballistas instead of archers. This is the reason why their win rate is so poor.
But overall, I’m happier with this civilization than the other two. Unlike the weak northerners, there’s a viable way to raid.
Another harsh nerf. Serpents are there to keep a herd or a mine in check. Besides, villagers already deal bonus damage to them because they’re considered wild animals. They shoot at them with bows. In my experience, putting Serpents under a main mine only delays the enemy for 10 seconds because they’re sending troops there to kill the Serpents. But chasing them away from a distant mine where there’s no defense would be just the thing.

He’s more expensive, costs favor and a population cap, and if he’s attacked, he flees. But Egypt has a clear view of the map.
Yea, it would be nice to have a use for animals as frontline units even if they Just tanked damage and not deal much it would be nice
He has kinda a bad match up to hades but yea, set is currently better than those.
Eggy has by far the strongest classic age fighting. Its simply harder to play than other civs because their units are fast to createxswarm but are fragile so ir requieres better micro.
You can see any Mista game with eggy from tournaments in aggresive style maps. Boit also has one as Ra vs Neymar. Its very strong yo classic fight as eggy and gold starve you opponent.
We can try a game me as set vs tu playing loki and you can see how absurd it becomes on games.
The game has been moving away from god powers simply iddling economy for free, like the nerf on Ancestors on villagers, fei beast as well.
If you want to talk about archaic ezploration, yes obelisk is good. Eggy obelisk, are amazing when you have map control and are in control since you can see the whole map at the same time.
With pegasus you can se what ever you want whenever you want. If you are forces to turtle in your base you can still check if your opponent is taking a second tc, if hes mássing an army, wwhat Buildings hes got, if hes swithcing to another unit. You cant do that with obelisk they serve as a “win more” scouting option. Pegasus is good in any condition.
Statistically, since the first October patch, among players of 800–1600 Elo, Set is stronger than Hades but weaker than Loki.
I still don’t understand how they’re showing such results with him. He has no divine power, his upgrades are situational. They took away 30% of the mass of mythical units, which are already useless in this game because they’re super easy to counter with heroes, and he still fights well. It’s weird. I think the northerners have some kind of exploit.
A recent Hades game reminded me of this topic. I won’t start a new one, but I’ll just continue this one because it’s thematically similar.
The thing is, every third god had unique mechanics based on, let’s call it, Mysticism, which greatly diversified their gameplay compared to the other two. Hades’s specialty was his unique Shadows and powerful Mythic units, which remain in the game. Loki’s specialty was his large number of Mythic units (he summoned them in battle, and they were cheaper, and he could raid with Hersirs from the start due to their increased movement speed). This feature was halved. The set had combat pets (they were completely removed). If you look at this from a player-engagement perspective, rather than a balance one, these were very poor decisions that made two of the three candidates for distinct gameplay more generic.
Kronos, on the other hand, was reworked much better. The only thing is that the paid shifting of attacking building is a completely unnecessary addition, meaning they once again tried to make a unique mechanic as useless as possible.
I’m sure this can be somehow fixed with 10 keys on the keyboard.
