Giant Otter cannot be placed on Land despite being a Land unit

  • Game Version: The Obsidian Mirror

  • Build Number: v.100.19.11687.0 (601511R)

  • Platform: Steam

  • Operating System: Windows 11

Website didn’t accept the screenshot. Anyway, the Giant Otter has land based animations, but it can only be placed on water.

Trigger Event:

(what was happening at the time of the performance/stability issue)
(this could be an action you or another player took right before the issue started)

Repro Steps:

  1. Go to the scenario editor.
  2. Find the Giant Otter in the Place Object Menu.
  3. Try placing the unit on land. Then Try placing it on water.

Can confirm. Discovered this last night. Can only be added to water of a particular depth, but stays on the surface as if it is solid.

An odd unit indeed. It’s obvious this was intended to be more than unselectable embellishment, there are normally unseen walking, attack, flail, and death animations. And an unused compendium text, too.
If they don’t reconsider like they did with the Capybara shortly after release, it could at least be given the Panda treatment - moves around and one can read the compendium entry.

Giant otter? As in the South American animal?
Why did this DLC add so many animals that only live in South America?

Does the giant otter appear any any maps? If not, maybe its a hint at the Incas?

Maybe they will add Inca next with all the animals of Central America.

Might just be a cut unit that they ended up not using, so they didn’t finish its flags properly.

Recently I noticed that there is also a full set of aquatic animations for the Giant Otter, which are not used at all. Including this bored animation:

It looks like this was not only intended to be an interactable animal, but also amphibious. Should it ever be implemented the way it was intended, maybe some other animals like hippos and crocs could become amphibious, too.
