Need an offensive buff, they deal barely any more damage than baseline ones and the bonus health doesn’t do much as they can still be focused down by archers quickly.
Now, with some time passed, we can only say how lucky we are that it wasn’t +6 hp. Could you imagine the havoc they would have wreaked?
The LK needs a rework. Both versions, but the HRE one even more than the OotD one. Plain and simply. Either keep him the way he is, but improve pretty much everything about him in a notable fashion, so he justifies his high costs and doesn’t just die that easily anymore to not only archers, but especially archers. Or there is a proper rework that makes him a proper imp only unit consisting of at least 2h Doppelsöldner and polearme Landsknechte (with extra range for second row attacks) that work together and are very efficient vs melee infantry and cavalry. The HC of HRE could become the Landsknecht arquebusier then. For him you would only need to add something unique, the gunpowder version would not have to be a reinvention, but simply an adjustment to an already existing unit.
The Landsknecht as he is is utterly useless for HRE and pretty useless for OotD. And yes, the gilded version’s damage is pretty underwhelming. He’s also just too damn slow. The (uncalled and weird) nerf to inspired warriors made him also deal even less dmg.
Well, they have that technology that gives them a Halberd, so they do bleeding damage.
Now, I think they could give both Landsknechts more “Melee” armor, so they could last longer against the “Melee” units they’re supposed to fight.
-
HRE Landsknecht could be 3/0 (III) → 4/0 (IV), and
-
Order of the DragonTail, Gilded could be 4/0 (III) → 5/0 (IV).
-
The Ribauldoquin, which does area damage, has 10/0 (IV).
HRE don´t have ribauldoquins
If the only reason the HRE doesn’t have Ribauldoquins, even though it historically produced a lot, is because of the Landsknechts, then, as a good replacement, it should at least have some melee armor or melee resistance.
If the counter of both units (Ribaulds and Landknechtc-Doppelsoldner) gonna be “Ranged Units” giving them melee armor, to make them do their job, is the right way.
Doppelsoldners have armor
On the other hand, I think there’s a “confusion” regarding the Landsknecht’s low HP and light armor for his historical lore, because the unit we see isn’t a Pikeman (those did wear light armor) but a Doppelsoldier with a two-handed sword.
- Historically, Doppelsoldners, who went into battle with 2 handed swords to the forlorn hope, knowing they would be easily defeated without prottecion, wore heavier armor to defend themselves against the pikes and sword blows they might receive, before charging the pikes with their swords and disrupting the enemy formations.
About another units, i made a post some days ago (About HRE: More Unique Units and Mechanics [IDEAS]).
One de mis ideas fue cambiarle el nombre a la unidad o agregarle el título de “Doppelsoldner” para que así no haya confusión cuando metan el piquero.
