Goth HC and Hun Paladin

With the addition of new regional units or unique units for specific civilizations, I hope we might eventually get a new Gothic unit to replace their Hand Cannoneer with something more fitting for the Goths or Vandals, without gunpowder. The same goes for the Hun Paladin concept.

Are there any other units you think are historically inaccurate and deserve a rework, or any potential new unique or regional units you’d like to see added to the game?

The goths really need that answer to countermeasure Champions because unit for unit they cannot win otherwise unless you go heavy tech into Cav Archers without thumb Ring

Goths definitely need a strong anti-infantry unit, I agree. What I don’t like is that they have access to HC. I’d rather see them get a new regional/unique unit that fills that role without relying on gunpowder.

Boyars should become a knight line replacement for slavs bulgarians lithuanians.

Magyars huns cumans could get a new paladin unit.

Giving western european civis a hussar replacement unit might also be an option similar to mounted xbows.

EA could be given to SEA civis.

War dogs should be trainable for many.

New unit ideas

landsknecht a teuton civi unit which can be trained by allies similar to condottri.

war gally upgrade galleases for the italians.

gazi warrior’s for islamic civis.

gallowglass unit for celts so they have something medieval.

That answer would’ve been Cranequin MXbows only missing thumb Ring but alas… it’s not too late to give them the crossbows that did exist in Europe at that time

Varagian Boyars too? They were quite invested in Russiatic wars with Novogod

Gameplay wise they Goths should get Slingers that replace their Hand Cannons and Bombard Cannons by having a bonus against Infantry and Siege.

I suggested Mounted Slinger as a new Castle Unique unit for the Goths, fully moving the Huskarl to the Barracks only.

For the Huns the Tarkan should just replace the Knight line at the Stable with a new UU at the Castle.

Maybe Tarkan for a bunch of steppe civs?

It could be a Light Cav & Hussar reskin tbh, a torch-wielder doesn’t match the heavy cavalry theme too much.

In that case it risks being a Turk unit and thus replacing the free scout upgrade with free Tarkan upgrades

I know that “Tarkan” is a Turkish word but the unit itself doesn’t fit other civs in my opinion. I think it should stay exclusive to the Huns. It could potentially be renamed.

The Tarkan is somewhat inbetween the Knight and the Scout line atm which is fine. They have more pierce and less melee armour then Knights making them feel more light. I don’t think them being a Scout line replacement would make sense since they would then be a trash unit which has to be a lot weaker.

Maybe giving the Huns access to the Steppe Lancer would make sense. They have a lower Pierce and higher Melee armour compared to the Tarkan so they would fill a different role automatically.

Though what would then be the new Hun UU? I think there could be a few potential units. Maybe a siege unit so they don’t need to keep their stupid Trebuchet bonus.

Their new Castle Age UT could be a a UT that gives them gold for every building destroyed. Lucking this behind a UT would prevent it from being too strong in Feudal Age.

Historically, Goths used wagons for both transport and military purposes. They slung stone and shot arrows behind the wagons. Or maybe combine slingers and wagons as anti-infantry unit.

The steppe based raiding and plundering unit doesn’t fit with a bunch of raiding and plundering civs? Not Mongols Tatars or Cumans? Khitans? Heck maybe even Magyars?

A rename is fine but these guys seem like they’d have an armored raiding cavalry unit instead of Charlemagne’s dozen

I’ll go a step further. Let it be Magyar too so their rather awful Corvinian UT has another unit to work on

I’ve just reminded myself that the Gurjaras’ Knight line replacement doesn’t even wear a shirt, so I shouldn’t really complain about the Tarkan filling this role for Huns (and other Steppe civs)
