Graphics old versus new

While I appreciate the improvements as years have gone by, it would’ve been sad if we’re restricted to one graphical style per game. For example, AOE DE allows you to go between 1997 old style graphics and highly improved graphics. Also, nowadays, people around the word might own a laptop and not all laptops can handle such over the top graphics that can ultimately slow down the game.

AOE2 DE would benefit well, including Mythology Extended Edition and 3 DE in the future. I hope the developers would consider that idea, the way he did it with AOE DE which is definitely a success and also consider people who own a laptop by optimizing to its level. Just hope there’s no graphic discrimination, if you could call it that.

I think that not only the graphics should be backwards compatible, but that HD and everywhere from age of kings should be able to connect to DE in some way if possible.
And in similar fashion make it so for all age games.
At the very least, I think that DE should be able to connect and act like an HD copy and connect to lobbies over on the HD edition.

Why? Call me close minded, but I reckon the old games need to be decommissioned to force the community to move to DE. If their computers can’t handle it, they probably need a new computer.

Not everyone is in the position to buy a new PC, and the idea of shuutting down the old games seems very much unnecesary

Probably. It just really annoys me seeing the old graphics, and how people act like the old games were actually good, when DE just blows them out of the water in basically every way.

The old games were actually good - if they hadn’t been, HD wouldn’t have had expansions, and no one would still have been playing them by the time DE was released. I mean, I agree that DE is better in every way, but that’s not the same as the old games being bad.

If by “decommissioning” the old games you mean
actively preventing people from playing them, then I strongly disagree and don’t even think that should be legal. (Thankfully it would be impossible for the original game anyway, but I think HD has DRM that would make it possible.)

Personally I like the old graphics and would like an official “classic graphics” option. Do I think the DE graphics are better? Yes. Is my fondness for the old graphics due to nostalgia? Partly, perhaps mostly, but I don’t see why that’s a problem.

Look how that game ended up.

How would a classic knight be different from the de knight both are exactly the same unit.

Which you can achieve by having the styles present in DE, no? As I understand, the point is not to make separate games compatible with DE, just that you have your own personal selection of the graphic styles for your own game. Sometimes you just wanna see them for the nostalgia, or whatever.

It’s not a must-have feature, but it’s nice. I think OP just wants something like Diablo 2: Resurrected (or Warcraft 3:Refunded, but we don’t talk about that…) had.

If you don’t want to see those, then don’t use the feature, simple as that 11

Graphics in general should at least be convenient and easy on the eyes. It makes managing civilizations in this game easy to use for beginners and veterans. If there’s an option for laptops, it would save mine from losing memory and draining its power. I hope the developers can consider that for people who has low powered computers.

Graphically they’re not the same and otherwise I don’t understand the question. It wouldn’t be a separate unit. I’m talking about a graphics option that uses classic graphics instead of the DE ones, and if I understand correctly, that’s what the OP is talking about as well.

I realised after I said this it isn’t true: DE doesn’t have the full map screenshot option that The Conquerors introduced.

thats because you haven’t come across superb old games.

like thief the dark project for example, like my name suggests
