Well he’s a pro , like you said. Pros normally never play team games unless if its for Youtube or a rare shared stream. As Grubby, Beasty, GUA, the Bald Queen DeMus all say “Team games show no skill”

Delhi wall spam + Longbows
HRE Knight spam + Rus Siege spam with Rus Handcannons
Passing resources > HRE fast imp

I would say team games require bit of different type of skill than 1v1.

1v1 player must consider their own unit comp and need to rely their own ability to do things.

TG’s player need to consider whole team and team comps.

If something if you play as solo in 2v2 its probably way harder to climb if player is skilled enough to reach high rankings than its in 1v1 because you’re not just 50% of players on map. You might get frequently low elo players on your team or even opponent team which makes games very unbalanced. This is especially case if player is 1400-1500 elo. They’re constantly paired with 800-1200 elo players and sometimes if you get unlucke there is duo thats 1500-1900 elo and you end up constantly facing them with low elo partner.

I don’t think they’re intending that any of these updates will result in perfect balance, they’re just trying to make some changes that make sense as steps along the way. IMO, when viewed in that way, and if we accept their apparent budget for the rate at which they can deliver changes, they’re doing a far from terrible job with their choices of balance changes (and bug fixes that affect balance) within that budget.

Sure, some people might argue that there are huge problems like Abbasid’s landmark being too easy to snipe, but there were also people arguing early on that no civ could possibly compete with the French, and that view didn’t stand the test of time. AoE 2 DE’s balance has taken decades to get to where it is, with significant changes still being made quite recently, e.g. the significant buff to infantry.

Balance is never something that will achieve good point with single patch and balance is something that shouldn’t be dramatically altered in one patch.

Yet they did that. They decided to overshoot nerf china with global siege nerf followed by IO and clockwork tower nerf, but proceeded to buff delhi with berries which makes absolutely no sense at all.

Meanwhile they’re slapping mongol with small nerfs over long period of time and even heck buffing mongols. Why didn’t china get this treatment? Why was siege butchered in single patch? Why wasn’t china instantly provided small meaningful buffs like the berries.

In fact that chinas all unique techs and strengths were put into gunpowder which is imperial age power and not available early on puts them in position that china either needs to be strong with imperial age unit or they need to rework chinas identity from scratch.

All units before imperial are generic units or inferior versions. Unique units are all behind big paywall with very little benefit. Zhuge nu being most accessible but those come way too late in feudal to matter and can be too easily countered with horsemen, armored units or simply kiting archers.

There is no economic upgrades or bonuses that give us advantage in feudal / castle. Only one being is IO 20% extra generation but even that is something that pays of in longer games and not short and is very expensive investment which can be easily denied by opponents small raiding group. Killing 1 IO is same as killing +4 workers and it only has 75 HP and is slow moving

Top of that devs have stated following “we’d like to buff things if possible and not nerf”. What stopped them buffing horses in this patch and see what happens to siege? This way they would’ve created counterplay to siege and not altered the balance much. They could’ve even introduced imp age anti siege upgrade for horsemen. The route that devs took was absolutely disgustingly bad and they’ve shown to take this route few times and only chance of players having their voices heard is to complain as much as possible
