Players should always start with the same number of boars/elephants/rhinos near their Town Center, typically two.

The Gurjaras frequently start missing their second boar, particularly observed on maps such as Glade and Arena.

For example:

My best guess is that the extra berry bush granted to the Gurjaras is interfering with the map generator and preventing the second boar from spawning. (Edit: It could also be related to the Camel Scout, which is also unique to the Gurjaras.)

Because Gurjaras frequently start with only one boar, their early-game economy is weaker than intended. This likely contributes to their 42 % overall win rate on Aoe2Insights, the second-lowest among all civilizations.

:backhand_index_pointing_down: How often does the issue occur? CHOOSE ONE; DELETE THE REST!

Frequently – approximately 36% occurrence rate in my tests (9 out of 25 trials on the Glade map).

:play_button: REPRODUCTION STEPS

:backhand_index_pointing_down: List CLEAR and DETAILED STEPS we can take to reproduce the issue ourselves. Be descriptive!

  1. Select Gurjaras in a skirmish match.
  2. Set the map to Arena or Glade with an explored map setting.
  3. Observe that the second boar often does not spawn for the Gurjaras.

Yep just had this in 4v4 arena. No boar

Not sure if it is civ specific, I also encountered one of my boars in the middle of the map (glade) as goth. However I also had a game with a teammate as gurjaras who was missing a boar on arena.

Thanks for pointing out the Goth example. I missed the “deep‐map” spawn in my first tests, so I ran another 100 games as Gurjaras on Glade:

  • No second boar in 8 of those runs.
  • In about 15 other runs, the boar spawned inside, or even before, the wall opening in the map’s center; once it showed up almost equidistant from the enemy TC.

So it looks like boars occasionally spawning far inside the map is a general bug on Glade, but the complete missing‐boar only happens with Gurjaras.

(Edit: Solved, see below)
Does anyone know why entering a script and seed into the Scenario Editor yields a different result than the in-game map? For example, if I copy the seed from a replay into the Scenario Editor, I end up with the wrong map.

Also, after numerous attempts in the Scenario Editor, I haven’t been able to reproduce either of the two issues mentioned above (a boar missing or the boar spawning too far outside the playable area). Does the Editor use a different script or map generator than the main game? Otherwise, I can’t explain this behavior.

What I mean is that, while the minimap and overall map shape look almost identical, the details, such as resource placements or boar spawn locations, are noticeably different.

Okay, that question is solved. It turned out to be either the difficulty setting or disabling team positions. Now I’m able to recreate the in-game situation in the Scenario Editor:

So, what’s the difference? In-game, they lost a boar but gained a berry bush compared to the editor. Perhaps, instead of adding an entity, the game accidentally overwrote the boar when spawning a Gurjara player. I’m not sure. The developers should examine the Gurjara-specific code to track and fix this bug. Whatever spawned the bush might have erased the boar. Very vegan-friendly, I suppose!

On Arabia second boar spawns exteremly far from time to time for Gurjaras.
