Persians are a horrible addition
Basically no different to the Ottoman Empire in AoE3
Technically there isn’t even a Persian Empire within the AoE3 timeline

That’s like saying we don’t need Dutch because we already have Germans. I think it would be nice to see at least one more middle eastern civ, it’s not all Ottomans even though they were the most powerful state.
Persians also include the Afsharid and Qajar Persia, they are a legit civ to add, and even they had some contact with European Powers.
Really? Please read history a little bit more my friend… AOE 3 is between 1500 - 1850 .We talked about Safavid & Qajar persia above :
I recanted as my prior post read.
mate, where do you get all those pictures from? It seems every reply you post has a dozen new ones
I love history & I read many books , about pictures just google it
Right.
Is this game all about colonialism? Colonialism was the leitmotif of those times, but much more happened then. New Campaigns, Civs, Historical Battles, and this game will still remain Age of Empires - but will break with the routine and torpor of “colonialism”. I guess for some it is more important than the good of the game …
It remains AoE yes, but not AoE III, a game has a theme. Within colonialism not all has been done the entire continent of Africa is not even in the game, we dont need civs that are almost copies of existing ones or mechanics which already exists.
Inca’s? Exact copy of Aztecs but better, what new did they bring? Nothing, all mechanics of Inca’s have already been done with other civs.
Swedish? Mercenary focus of Germany, torps are basically shrines, only their unique infantry has a bit of a unique mechanic.
With Africa and African civs you can have totally new mechanics fitting of the new cultures and continent.
And coming back, DE means definitive edition or in other words, the last version of the game. A DE should in no way change the theme of a game, because then its not a DE, as the fundaments of the original have been changed. The DE becomes something different, which is not nesiccarily bad, but its in no way close to the original game.
Example of this is Wars of Liberty, is it close to an AoE? Yeah its a mod, so thats right. Is it AoE III? No it changes so much in a new direction that it becomes its own thing, still a mod, but its own thing. There was no need to change the theme, atleast not yet. First of all, the colonial theme has so much more to offer, not to mention 0 campaigns have been about it. Second of all the game isnt doing that well, the player base has dropped already heavily since release and I am not so sure any new dlc are really going to pay off. (not saying keeping the colonial theme would have brought more players, but it was a factor in reviews early on and a DE shouldnt be reliable on DlC for content seeing its ment to be a definitive edition not a standalone game).
You forget the houses and cards
I LOVE the Swedes
Their houses are torps…
I know, the name didn’t come to me when I typed my reply a minute ago.
Yeah but I mentioned torps, because I do know them and they are bland and unoriginal, yeah fun to play with, thats why Japan is partly fun to play with.
But just like the new Star Wars, making existing stuff bigger or better doesnt make it more original or nesiccarily fun. I want original civs and unique mechanics like the original game did, not this.
Me too
Swedes is a breath of fresh air in this so far forgotten game.
Definitely one of the coolest and coolest civilizations in AoE 3.
There is no need to stick to one “theme” because trust me the casual players (which are the real silent majority) would not care, unless you introduce ancient Romans or aliens. Before TAD I can confidently say the theme of the game is colonization of America, but TAD still breaks that theme and people accepted it.
This “community”, basically those not-so-casual players, have been debating about whether AOE2 DE should or should not get any new content because it is “definitive”, and it still gets one, which breaks both the “definitive” nature and the “tradition” of adding new regions by going back to one of the very first regions, and some people complained about it. But those who don’t even bother to go to a forum would simply see new content and buy it.
You know Asia got colonized right?
Neither China nor Japan got colonized.
There where no European Troops on Japanese ground and China only got into conflict with Europeans in the late 19th century.
Why does the game have to stick to the colonial concept?
It doesn’t offer anything it just limits it and holds it back. There are so many awesome stories to tell that happened in Europe.
The Persians are really missing from this game.
The Persians could give really interesting and unique gameplay that combines European and Asian traits.
They did the colonizing
