I am trying to make a campaign custom hero for private uses based off the protodata of Altantean Villager (Hero) but ran into a few issues with getting them to actually fight like a ranged military unit (not that its a unit that should fight given its meant to behave like a certain pair of hero dwarfs.)
Also want to give it an boost type ability that buffs the unit and other villagers build speed and movement speed in a small area. (Was thinking of maybe giving the unit the ability to create citadels or buff military structures but felt they didn’t fit balance wise. Do sorta want to do the citadel part though as maybe an extra ability.)
The theme of the custom unit is its meant to be a sort of campaign styled unit that’s good at building bases but weak at combat and average at resource gathering (greek level resource gathering but kuafu build speeds) and can build every (base) structure regardless of civ. Though don’t need help with this as I already got the resource gathering and train list sorted.
Update:I have figured out how to properly setup abilities. Still haven’t figured out how to setup the custom abilities I want but everything is lining up nicely on this unit. Except the unit still insisting on using hand attack but thats likely just because its still using the villager.tactic
Yeah I have figured out how to sort out the attack issue and how to handle tactics and ablities. Though getting the boost to work right is still a conundrum but probably just need to modify way its triggered. Also think I will have the citadel be a bonus ability you need ether the wonder or mythic age to unlock. Though will worry about the latter later.
Tried going a step futher and making a custom ablitiy since I am having some issues getting the autoboost to work out still but ether am making a syntax mistake with .abilities files or the games more stingy with abilities because came won’t recognize the custom name I gave a test ability.

About your issue, be careful when modding ability
if you want to mod something like egyptian.abilities or add you own, you have to use powers_mods file
and abilities_mods to link the ability to the proto visually
