History sections of new civs

Representing a civilization with another civilization makes them related.

More news at 11. Real groundbreaking stuff here.

Civilizations in AoE2 don’t cover prehistory. There’s absolutely no reason for AoE2 Danes to be an umbrella of Danes and… the Funnelbeakers.

In the same campaign where Romans are Goths, Teutons, Celts, Franks and obviously Byzantines?

I think if there is ever an Alans civ (which there should be), the Scythians in Attila 1 should be changed to them. The Alans are descended from the Sarmatians, who are themselves descended from Scythians, so there is a direct line of ancestry there.

Of course, the Scythians are far too early for Attila, but who cares about details like that?

So the Venetians were Portuguese all this time?

If you ignore actual history.

The reality is that there’s not really any verified correlation between Scythians and any other civilization currently in the game.

At best you could tie them to some Iranian civ, but the connections are ancient, as in predating historical records.

Alans, as someone pointed out, would probably be the best representative for them.

In said Alani expansion a likely other Barbarian would be the Sakas who eventually took the Satraps. While I would disable any elephants the Sakas which include the Scythians in their umbrella were to get it would be a fitting option of a civ otherwise

This isn’t to insult the Alans whom have prescence in Europe Africa, and the steppes and the Caucus either so that’s quite the civ potential for lancers, camels mules, Dromons and even Fortified Churches

Sakas could be something like different.

Sakas a Cav Archer and elephant civ

regional units: Battle Elephant, Siege Elephant, Camel, Steppe Lancer, Mule Cart, Dromon or Catapult Galleon, Pasture, Savar

  • Parthian Tactics researches instantly and effects all mounted units
  • Pasture Workers generate 1 gold per 6 food dropped off.
  • Cavalry Archers and Siege Elephants do 2 extra damage vs cavalry and buildings.
  • Start with 1 less villager but +300 of all resources. unlike most villager bonuses this one is active before your first town center because why would you punish such a crippling detriment so badly!?

Team Bonus: Reveals all huntables with fog of war active within 20 range of either your food dropsites or your starting villager locations on nomadic maps.

UT1: Western Satrap - Siege and melee elephants +4 melee armor and -50% damage from anti elephant specific attack bonuses (does not include any other armor type)

UT2: Massagetae Tactics - Mounted Archers fire an extra projectile.

UU: Haumavarga - A heavy cavalry archer. Slow and armored compared to other cavalry archers but effectively a Cataphract with a bow. Does bonus damage vs shock units and archers.

Missing techs

Barrack: Champion, Halberd

Stables: Hussar, Elite Battle Elephant, Elite Steppe Lancer

Archery Range: Arbalest, Hand Cannon

Siege Workshop: Ram, Siege Onager. bombard

Blacksmith: Plate Barding

University: Guard Tower, Chemistry, Carvel Hull, Shipwright, Fortified Walls

Dock: Fast Fire, Cannon

Economy: Gold Shaft Mining, Farm things, Stone Shaft

Thais have had two different civs used for them in different levels. Who covers them?

Scythians sadly suffer from the “wastebasket taxon” effect. Where other similar people who are not them get chucked in with them. So this is likely supposed to be someone else, and they were just incorrectly recorded during AoC’s design period as Scythians.

You’re using other civilizations being annoyingly broad to justify European civilizations being needlessly specific? What?!

And that’s just for Anglos, Celts are still so broad that they somehow cover Irish, Scots, Picts (???), Basques (???) and even North American natives (Vinlandsaga still uses Celts for the Skraelings, they were just renamed via scripts).

They weren’t just “not strictly Malian”, they weren’t Malian at all and I’m still annoyed they were put there.

Not what he said

It very clearly doesn’t, Age of Empires scenario designers aren’t an authority in who is related to who else. What is it with forums that just make trolls will themselves into existence?

She. But thanks for backing me up against this nonsense.

I can’t give guarantees but I’ll try to remember in the future.

You’re welcome

The person who wrote this took the Agarthatok memes way too seriously.

For context: there’s a number of post-ironic edits on Tik-tok about fictional white supremacist States like Agartha and Hyperborea. These peaked in popularity like 6 months ago when the DLC would logically be in development.
