EVERY damned mission the enemy gets tons of heavy knights and the player gets nothing to counter it, what the hell were the devs thinking!?
I enjoyed it tbh. Didn’t have this issue.
What did you do to counter the constant knight spam? Age 2 spearmen just doesn’t cut it and everything else performs even worse.
What mission in particular are you struggling with?
i’m honestly more interested in hearing at which difficulty you ran into this? to give it a shot myself
Yes, it is more for you to play defensively by occupying control points… the first mission is to boom and mass the army and destroy the Beast Siege Tower and then the rest is to defend yourself from the crusader advance, then in one mission it is to defend yourself from the naval attack of Reynald de Chatillon and so you go through missions in which you face crusaders and Mongols of the Ilkhanate…
I can’t get past the second one but the first one was the same and I only completed it because the enemy unit AI shat itself and stopped attacking me.
Just Intermediary which in the original missions was pretty easy, now it’s suddenly impossible
How am I supposed to play defensively when the objective is to gain map control?
That is, defensive, to gather resources, but if you can, mass more troops and move in sections… the allies occasionally give you troops to help you and you send those troops to maintain 2-3 points… don’t play it as much as AoE 4 but more like CoH 1 and 2…
About the Crusader Knights, there are here to make the campaign a challenge to overcome, especially on Hard difficulty.
Like a comparison, the Mongol campaign was Ultra-easy, even in hard, a walk in the park, because it used an alpha version of the Mongols that was too broken.
Instead, the Abbasid-Ayyubid campaign, forces the player to apply the “counter system” especially from the 2nd level, where spearmen must be used against horsemen, and horsemen against archers, and so on.
The Crusader knights are annoying at the beginning, but they also follow the counter system:
-
In the 2nd level you must use Spearmen and reserve enough to finish them off, and dont let them alive a lot of time, because they group with other crusader knights and become ultrapowerful.
-
In levels where you can create Camel riders, or camel archers, they are their best counter after the crossbowman, because they reduce their attacks a lot.
-
In other levels you must use Crossbowmen when they are given to you, they are their best anti-counter, and use horsemen or spearmen as human shields until they are defeated.
