Hoplite anti cavalry bonus?

Shouldn’t hoplite have a small anti cavalry bonus? They are spearmen after all, and cavalry charging into a wall of spears which basically a phalanx formation generally would not be wise. Even if was something like plus 5 to 10 bonus damage.

Macedonian hoplite literally had pikes. So it would be even worse for horses to charge into that.

  • 10 bonus damage.
  • 5 bonus damage.
  • More bonus damage. State number in post.
  • No bonus damage.

I totally agree.
At the moment the Hoplite, Paragon and Hippeus are way to similar and all way to weak.

My suggestion:

  • Hoplite: +5 vs. Cavalry
  • Paragon: +5 vs. Infantry
  • Hippeus: +5 Infantry Armour

This way they all have a more unique role and it will also make sense for future civilisations.

Hoplites would be far more cost effective against cavalry. Unlike the Spearman-line they more armor, so will more staying power in a fight even lower bonus damage.

I guess the Paragon would be much weaker against cavalry. But be more of anti hoplite unit.

Hippeus an anti archer, tank generalist. They will lose 1v1 against a Paragon. Perhaps they get a smaller anti cavalry bonus, like 3.

Maybe something similar is planned for Macedonians in BFG 2.
