How do I remove a unit/building from a control group?

enable exclusive control groups in options first.
When the situation arises, you can either

  1. select the control group, shift click the unit type icon (might be control click, sorry it’s muscle memory to me) and then re-create the control group. ( this is possible without exclusive control groups enabled)
  2. Prepare an alternative control group that you consider your “trash” control group. Whenever you want something out of a control group, you select it and recreate the trash control group with it, making it drop out.
