How do you think the Aztec Pantheon will gain favor?

Th Aztecs would please their Gods by sacrificing animals and other humans to feed them blood to quench their wrath and recive blessings. Do you think the devs would implement something simliar to this as a way for the Aztecs to gain favor?

I am in two minds on this. 1) They are heavily censored because of China, so it might have nothing to do with sacrifice. 2) One of the modders from the Aztec: Return of the Gods mod became a Dev, and the captive/ sacrifice system was a huge part of that cultures identity. This could be their passion project?:woman_shrugging:

It will probably be something related to death — I imagine it might be based on the number of enemies killed? Maybe they’ll start with a relatively high amount of favor and will only be able to gain more favor by killing enemies… (Which could be interpreted as ‘they kill prisoners of war as sacrifices’ or something like that.)

That would simply be the norse system, but with kills instead of damage dealt.
Which isn’t big enough of a difference to be felt ingame.

I agree this way is better and more simple.Aoe2 anyway has mechanics similar to this so wont be a big deal.

An idea I just had: we could garrison our own units in temples (or altars). They disappear after a while and generate favor. With a mechanic where the more units are garrisoned, the more effective it is.

With an option to convert enemy into prisoners who would give more favor (if I remember correctly, that’s what the old mod did in a way).

When a unit is sacrificed, there is an animation on the altar. However, this animation can be disabled or reduced in the settings or in a possible censored version.

The DLC with Aztecs includes the Blood and Bones Pack, so maybe the bloody effects, including Aztec sacrifices, will be handled with this.

I think it’s nonsense not to include sacrifices for the Aztecs; it’s part of their mythology, culture, and religion. It would be a shame to ignore them completely for reasons of censorship.

Being able to simply sacrifice your villagers (with or without a visualisation) seems hard to balance.

Wouldn’t you just autoqueue villagers from the TC to your Temple in the late game? Basically just transforming Food into Favour.

It sounds like a cool and interesting mechanic in early game but than becomes super boring later on when individual villagers aren’t valuable anymore.
