Sorry if this has been asked before… I tried searching but couldn’t find any concrete answers. I’m probably missing something obvious here, but I can’t seem to play a single-player skirmish with full control over my units.
The problem is that the AI keeps interfering. It starts building, gathering resources, and exploring the map with the units. While I can take control temporarily, the units go back to AI control after completing the tasks I assign them.
I’ve also tried disabling “Allow Village Priority” in the settings, but that didn’t fix the issue.
EDIT: Oh, this only happens in single-player skirmish mode. It doesn’t happen in Arena of the Gods.
Does anyone know how to stop the AI from taking control?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
You see your name on the player list and on the front of it have “Player” ? It needs to be player, if you select an AI there you are putting an AI for yourself.
This is happening too much, players putting AI on themselves and then not knowing why the AI is playing for them.
I’m trying to start a skirmish with the settings exactly like in the screenshot. I’m selecting “Player” right next to my username. Is that what you’re referring to? If so, I have no clue why the AI is still in control.

Yeah, you still have an AI on you even you not selecting it. Do the following: Disable any mods that you have, then later repair/verify the installation files.
The last resort is uninstalling and installing the game again, then its guarantee to work. And you are not being dumb, the game still have various bugs like this.
Hello, thanks for the tips! Unfortunately, no luck so far.
The only mod I have is the Triple Attack Tower.
I disabled the mod.
Launched a single-player skirmish.
Error is still present.
Then I:
Uninstalled the game and deleted the install folder.
Reinstalled the game. Mod still disabled.
Ran an integrity check on the install files.
Launched a single-player skirmish.
Error is still present.
I’ve also tried using a different civ, picking another color, changing teams, no teams, adjusting the number of players, and trying different maps, but nothing works.
I tested this at home and again just now on the PC at work, so I’m guessing it’s a bug.
Hope they fix it soon.
Are you sure there is NO mod you are using? I’m saying this because I had problems with mods that have nothing related. The Mythic UI mod for example don’t let me change the number of players.
Even if something like ‘Triple Attack Tower’ seems like don’t have anything related to it, it can bug everything when the game is updated.
Disable ALL the mods, no matter which one, close the game, open again and then go skirmisher and launch a simple 1v1 play.
Alright, I couldn’t figure out how to fix this issue, but I did find a workaround to play single-player against the AI. Just start a multiplayer game and set a password. That’s it! …No idea why this only happens in single-player skirmish mode though, but hopefully, this helps someone else dealing with the same thing.
