How to make Halberdiers useful?

Helberds and poruchiks cost a lot of gold. Nobody except the Dutch and French will support their mass production.

I was waiting for you! No. Assault infantry cannot be a rat unit. This is mistake.

The Papal Guard is 27 damage trash.

Don’t skirms and halbs cost within 5 res of each other? If you can mass skirms you can mass halbs.

Only now the skirmishers hold the blow, and the helberds die in batches. There is no army in this game that does not have at least 50% skirmishers. To develop the success of a halberd rush, you need to lose 20-30 people while they crawl to enemy positions. Then yes, they will kill everyone. Even skirmishers.
Playing with halberdiers involves large losses and is very easy to counter with musketeers.

boy you are NOT READY to hear about sweden

The deflection and yoinking is really gud though. Mix 'em with Halberdiers and the damage is no issue.

give them deflection and a charged ranged attack like Trabants, hell just give them deflection and boom, super useful, especially in cover mode.

If Halberdiers were a mercenary or unique unit, giving them special abilities may work. However, as Halberdiers are a standard line melee infantry unit, it is best to stick to tweaking the basic stats.

Based on responses in this post, Age 3 Halberdiers have some uses, which I would agree. Thus, I am wondering if Age 4 Halberdiers should be buffed by increasing their speed to 4.5 (from 4.25)? This way, Halberdiers can be a little bit better at raiding, catching cavalry, running from fights, etc.

Also (or alternatively), Infantry Breastplate may need to be buffed to +15-20% HP (from the current +10% HP), as the current HP increase is negligible (+20) most of the time.

Currently, I still make halberdiers whenever I see an opportunity to push with my opponent trapped (Since when they are not flying a kite, they are deadly), that said, any buff/nerf is complicated since tweaking speed, HP or damage is always a pain to balance.
So how about giving them extra range?

Halberds (The weapon) are a middle ground between pikes and swords, and since pikemen got that small bit of extra range in the latest of patches, it’d be logical for halberdiers getting some too, making them easier to use in masses (Which is the one of the main issues).

Also, opens a new way to use hand infantry as they were used histor- You know what, lemme make a new thread real quick…
