Hello, I am new here. Seeing that in AOE4 they decided to go back in time, going back to Medieval Times again, why can’t they make an Age of Empires in a more recent historical period? Maybe because this historical period is something very delicate to tell in a videogame, specially because of a certain famous character with a funny mustache? Or because they don’t want AOE to become a Real Time Tactics game more similar to games like Commandos, Men at War Assault Squad or World in Conflict?
How would you make an Age of Empires game that spans WWI, WWII and the Cold War without turning it into an RTT game and killing the essence of being an RTS along the way?
I return to this thread. I would like an Age of Empires in a more modern period such as the period from the end of the 19th century to 1991. More taking into account that image that circulated on the Internet some time ago where AOE4 was going to be set in that period, while AOE5 was going to be set in the future.
But what happens, I don’t want them to turn it into a Real Time Tactics game and completely ruin the essence of AOE in an attempt to turn it into something more like Men at War Assault Squad or World in Conflict. Take for example Empire Earth and Rise of Nations, games where you could move to a modern period, but that doesn’t mean that the games will suddenly turn from an RTS to an RTT.
