I hope that too, if we already waited 3 years I don’t see a problem in waiting for 1 more year. They Can even work in AoM DE meanwhile (remember DE versions are being made by Forgotten Empires) to make the waiting a little less stressful. Just wish they share some news soon that let us know that they are listening to the community.

Trust me, those people playing AoE 2 will not leave that game at all, but they will buy AoE 4 for sure. But they will not buy it because it looks like AoE2, they will buy it for the same reason you and me are going to buy it; just because its a new age of empires! So they should be looking for new players, which will look for 2021 graphics and fun gameplay. They have so much presure on this tittle but also have the biggest RTS community, they have to care in what new generations will have, more than the supportive community that will buy the game no matters what. Just my opinion, I want my nephews and future children get the same feeling I had Age of Empires for the very first time. But also keeping today´s standarts to engage us, the old people that do not play any other game than AOE but care about little details and want epic battles and destruction evrywhere.

Thing is AoE2 gained more new players in the last few years than it ever did back in the 90s. So Relic/MS is clearly seeing potential in the AoE2 formula that isn’t reliant on old players. They’re choosing to copy the AoE2 formula specifically because it has proven itself effective at reaching modern audiences in a way that other rts formulas haven’t.

and that doesnt, to be entirely honest) really include amazing, realistic graphics. What catches ppl is the wuick round RTS gameplay where each round you build an empire and strategize to defeat you enemy, like in a game of checss, but without turns

Only a handful of players zoom in while they play, they aren’t going to cater to them

I agree, but the mix up of realistic graphics with cartoony elements are not matching fine here, or they low the graphics and make it even more cartoony (mostly the units, like in settles 4), or they add those spicific details I already explained to match with the units, because the units in my opinion are realistic and far from being cartoony. They have to find the indentity they want, but mixing both just make it feel unfinished or insecure of what their goal is.

No true. Who says that is wrong? Above all you. You can not prove it otherwise. The majority of the youtube reviews and reports from magazines criticize the graphics of the game.
No the graphics looks also ugly from a distance view.
It is about the fact, that the close up view also looks bad, whether many players do they use or not, is not the topic, because the close up view is a part of the game and thus also represents the graphics as a whole.

lets make 1 thing clear, the graphics in zoomed out view seem to look ugly to you. As we already discussed though, it seems you dont mean graphics, but…lightning was it? or something alike. Which is fine. you may even find the graphic zoomed out ugly, but that doesnt make them so (technically speaking).
However, since I guess we two wont be getting to one side of this argument regarding graphics, I would like you to show where the “majority of youtube reviews and reports” comes from. As seen elsewhere, the trailer has a 10 to 1 like ratio, not sure on other channels. So what makes you thinkof a majority of negative reports? And I do not count the already adressed (by devs) arrows or general scaling. because thats already worked on. So apart from that, where is the majority saying the graphics are critizised?
Maybe we have very separate youtube bubbles- the reviews I found were mostly fond of the artstyle and graphics (apart from scaling) or accepted it although they would have prefered realistic ones.
I am with you regarding the closeup though. that was still quite ugly in the preview.

so. how do you come to the concluions (because they are 2) that
a) majority of players thinks the game is bad? While seemingly confirming that the youtube comments are in favor of it 4 to 1?
b) it still needs a lot of improvements? However this part is easy to be seen, I dont think many ppl said the game is already amazing. if it were, the preview wouldnt have been a preview
