I have 8 accounts and drop 80% of the games

Throwaway Steam / MS account with disposable mail under VPN, ban this right now. Going on with it for more than a year, but should my main account be sanctioned eventually I’ll just buy another one (or multiple). Many, many people like me.

I want to play closed maps, but the vast majority of the outcomes are open. Just as you very ethical people constantly drop BF, as you only want to play Arabia-style, to the point that it is IMPOSSIBLE to play one damn closed map without a player dropping (or stop playing / fake play / inactivity).

No problem in doing an open map, I enjoy it but not all the time. With time passing and seeing what the collective behavior is (read “solution”), I stopped caring.

I’ll wait 30, 45 minutes in queue to play a ranked BF (or similar) game, 1v1 or team, with people who WANT IT. For at least 50% of the games, that’s the only demand, and you will have saint-level sportsmanship following that. Separate the elo ladders into “Open” and “Choice” or whatever is needed.

I only play Arabia because it’s the only map I can get consistently, and therefore it is the only map worth learning and putting time into. But if they allowed me to play other maps whenever I wanted to (like Arena), I’d be happy to do so. I just don’t want to get random maps I haven’t prepared for, and I am not going to prepare for a map I only have a 10% chance of getting. So it’s a chicken and egg scenario right now.

tbh the title is very ragebaity and that’s probably why you don’t get responses here. I also didn’t wanted to read it at first.

It’s an important topic. At some points devs need to get that this approach just doesn’t work and we need to give people the choice NOT to play maps they don’t want to play without shenanigans like this.

I don’t want to condone what you are doing. However I think it’s important to not just blame players like you, but also the system that makes this behaviour optimal:

  • no possibility to find fair matches on one’s preferred map/settings
  • no rules for what to do with people abusing the system (or lack of enforcement for these rules)
  • no willingness to engage with the problems we have by the dev team (the dev team doesn’t even seem to acknowledge there is a problem)
  • no opening of the API to allow users to build a better system (better systems exist, many of them would even be fairly easy to implement)

This makes me remember of League of Legends.

I thought it would not be possible to enter the queue and be guaranteed to play with the position I wanted, lots of players said it would make waiting times too long.

But then LoL devs implemented a middle ground solution: you choose your main position (in AoE2 this would be your favorite map) and a secondary position that your comfortable playing, although with less frequency.

The trick for this to work is that sometimes you’ll still be forced to play a position (a map in AoE2) you didn’t pick, but then the game guarantees you that for your next 2 matches you’ll be granted one of the 2 positions (maps) that you picked.

To enforce this, dodgers are punished harder and cannot enter the queue for a time, which is increased for each subsequent dodge.

I like closed and water maps, but almost always I’m forced to play Nomad or Arena. I’m fine playing Arena sometimes (as it’s a closed map still), but not every match that is not Nomad…

(Thank the matchmaking gods at least the map bans work!!!)
