I Honestly Feel Blood & Bones Will Open the Floodgates for More Gnarly Creatures

When was the last time you saw a unit, much less a mythical one that was made of bones, guts, and blood in Retold? Probably zero. Mummies and the Draugrs could have been “THEM” but whatever art direction at that time kind of killed it no pun intended.

This is why I think the upcoming Blood & Bones pack is much bigger than one may think. Not only will it probably give us dead bodies on the battlefield but I also think it pave the way and set the stage for more nightmarish units from current and potentially new pantheons. It will be much easier to transition now that we have this pack. And that is a wonderful feeling. To be honest, I think it will be worth spending the extra money just to have that extra visual bonus.

Above are some of the units we might expect in the future. I think some of us, myself included, were hoping for Gashadokuro as a day one myth unit for the Japanese. I guess if there ever is a fourth Japanese god, maybe this will become the new myth character. (Also hoping for the Onryo as well :P)

Top left: Gashadokuro of the Temple of the Japanese
A titanic skeletal monstrosity that strikes fear wherever it goes.

Top right: Yohualtepoztli of the Temple of the Aztecs
Also known as the Night Axe. This creature appears at night and targets those who are traveling alone.

Bottom left: Dullahan of the Temple of the Irish
A legendary headless horseman who carries its severed head and wields its spine as a weapon.

Bottom right: Upir of the Temple of the Slavs
Undead vampires driven by an insatiable hunger for blood. Many classic Hollywood monsters such as werewolves, vampires, and witches were heavily influenced by Slavic mythology. These creatures could receive extra buffs if a Slavic player can control day and night cycles.

Thoughts?

first of all: WELCOME BACK!

secondly: cool idea i think this could make sense even tho i am not sure how these should work without the Blood DLC. - also could you list some of these creatures for the current civs (i know you listed Japanese but i mean the other of course) would be interesting i think.

I think in the case of say Gashadokuro, all players with or without the Blood & Bones pack will have full access to this unit’s bone design.

For the Yohualtepoztli, I think an exposed heart beating would be enough for the non Blood & Bones pack owners. If you do have it then the body cavity is more opened from chest to abdomen with inner organs more exposed not just the heart.

For the Dullahan, players who do not own the pack would see him wield a sword instead of the vertebrae. Also, he would not be carrying his decapitated head.

For the Upir, I would say just remove any decaying matter or exposed bones and remove any blood.

Though, if owners do own the pack, I hope the devs will give us the option to turn it on or off, or custom select what units you want to have it on or off. The latter would be the best option imo.

Some examples of current civs would be →
Greek: Shades and Eidolons.
Egyptian: Mummies and Minions
Norse: Draugr
Atlanteans: N/A
Chinese: ???
Japanese: Gashadokuro
Aztecs: Ixpuxtequi is a humanoid figure with no jaw and eagle legs. It carries a skull staff.
Tzitzimīmeh are horrifying beings with skeletal features from space who attack the sun. If they cannot make a bow fire from the chest cavity of the sacrificed victim, then they will descend from space and start killing people left and right.
