I need thoughts on techs with drawbacks

Techs that give a perk relevant to the civ, but adds a minor weakness.

As a sample:

  • Trade cards - Traders carry x2 res/trip but cost x2.5 more.
  • Steppe horses - Light cavalry cost -X%, but have X less hp.
  • Bladed arrows - Archers gain bonus damage vs heavy but cost gold instead of wood.

Just wanna know where the community stands on the Idea. Some civs get more techs than others (abbasid) and its gonna be hard to make them stronger without adding a control at some point.
