I really dislike Jeanne and OOD

wololo is the only one that can bypass the rule because the usage on all aoe game since 1. some with the wololo (aom for seth converting as example) other with the silent one (aoe 2, aoe 3 chiefs, etc). Its part of the series and trry to represent the change of side with changing to another religion. Jean as I mentioned is just 1 person trying to be represented as a whole civ.

aoe is an 80 ish % historical gfame for reason adove or you didnt played other aoe to notice it or just want to change that aoe shouldnt be historical anymore and you did accepting jean civ. There no justification and for that one your argument is flawed.

So many fallacies and false information get tossed around these days, but this post showing the history of characters really dispels all these complaints, holy moley! No one can change a person’s subjective opinion or complaint, but the fact of the matter is that these features have been all over the series, especially in 3 with every faction getting a “hero” explorer type unit.

Again, it doesn’t matter that it’s been around since AoE 1. It was still new once. If that’s your best argument in favour of a recogisably magical ability, you’re going to see wondering why it doesn’t get to apply to other abilities.

Basically what you are saying is that the “wololo” is fine because of it being iconic to the AoE franchise but when it comes to Jeanne d’Arc that is a historical figure, being the center of one variant civilization you suddenly draw the line? I thought you wanted historical accuracy in the game? Let’s just face it you don’t like the Jeanne d’Arc civilization because you think it doesn’t fit into the game, when there has been countless of heroes and leaders across all age titles including AoM.

Yes the whole AoE franchise has been mostly reference to history, while I think AoE4 in particular does the best job in representing history while also taking certain liberties to make a fun game such as the “wololo” magical conversion of enemy units.

I’m not the one arguing for AoE to change anything, I accept the fact that it’s mostly historical with elements of fantasy to make the game fun to play long-term. You are the one who is trying to put words in my mouth for things you say and not vise versa.

The Jeanne d’Arc civilization whether you like it or not is more historical accurate than any of your arguments regarding the “wololo”. You make no sense to me.

AOE of mythology is different and campaign heroes are not used in skirmish/multiplayer

only apply that one because it the only one beside some inconsistency like yamato in aoe 1 period and it was consistenly in every aoe.

jean with hand cannon and the lack of unique unit of the period that could enhance the experience but nope it has to be in favouir of the classic spear anti inf which is already gone and done better in aoe 3 and aom which is an step back from the formula. The long term fun is decreased by the fact that this game has nothing to offer beside mp which is supported by the aoe 2 civ design and the promotion from stremers and the ones who play in mp extensivily. Wheres the campáign maps that is supposed to be wth the gme and the editor which could patch it. and if that doesnt matter we can talk about the horrendous unit control comparing to other aoe except aoe 3 which lacks for melee units and the ui and hotkey navigation. Returning to the hsitorical one the rep´resentation of those at bes should be the actuall civ instead of the bland ones that gets boring because you can master 1 unti for all the civs. yeah japanese civ and byzantine is applied even thogu they got a better treatment. as i said the wololo is the exception and the fact that jean is mis represented is atroucious.

Really? I could have sworn that, historically, she stayed dead.

With this argument you can say that about every other soldier and unit in the game and how can a soldier/villager live through multiple eras that are several hundred of years in between? Also this applies to any of the AoE or AoM games as well

As I have stated multiple times on these forums, clearly this game is not for you but still you are being active on the forums awful lot for a game that you clearly dislike that much. You do what you want of course but I just find it weird, that’s all.

This is what’s good with the franchise, we all have every aoe game and aom to play that give us different things for us to enjoy. :slightly_smiling_face:

To add my 2 cents:

  • in campaigns, heroes are part of the game. In AoE 2, there are many campaigns such as El Cid or Joan of Arc where you have a hero unit you must keep alive, otherwise the mission is considered as lost. You can even count Regicide as some kind of Hero mode.
  • Hasn’t AoE 4 been partly critiziced for playing it too safe by resorting to AoE 2’s setting and adding features from AoE 2, 3 and Myth without innovating much (apart from things like walkable walls and stealth forests)? Adding a hero-based faction like Jeanne is then exactly the bit of innovation the game needed.

Exactly, that’s why I put it…

True, but they have existed from the beginning or not?..

Of course, don’t get so complicated… the Joan of Arc civ is just the French with the Joan of Arc unit and that’s it…

if you mean cheap the quality of the game and become an copy from aoe 2 when other did much better and expánded the idea of what aoe could be and the historical aspect. If they wanted fantasy they could always go as a spin offf with an cartoonish or quirky style but no we got this. I defending essemble legacy as other that defend this the argument against aoe 4 recent actions.

First of all, I’m fairly sure that Age of Empires IV has the biggest budget out of all the Age of Empires games and this is without looking it up, just common sense. The amount of work they put for example into every civilization, the unique architecture, music, the different language they speak with each time period etc. no other game has done this level of care in this franchise period. You might not like this game as you clearly have shown in multiple occasions and that’s okay but to call it cheap? That’s simply a lie.

Secondly, you are the one who on the one side defend a magical conversion of enemy units with the wololo and then you talk about Age of Empires IV adding fantasy elements is a bad decision? Hate to break it to you but all of the Age of Empires games have certain fantasy elements added to them, this is not a special case only for Age of Empires IV. Certain liberties has to be taken in order to make a fun game in the end.

Thirdly, it’s far from a copy paste from Age of Empires II and it couldn’t be more clear that you simply hate this game and try to talk negatively about it, in any way you can no matter how untrue or ridiculous some of those statements are from you.

I’ll say it again you have every right to dislike this game, no game is for everyone but what you are doing here for these forums you aren’t helping to make this game any better because truthfully no developer will take anyone serious that only bash on the game every opportunity they get and create lies to make their arguments sound more compelling.

The legacy they have is intact and in no need of defending, it is not sentient or living in any way. If anything you are ultimately doing this for yourself not the game or studio. Please understand, no one here is trying to direct attacks at you or your opinions, many seem to disagree on the premise of the game being as you describe. It just means those people feel differently than you.

Ensemble Studios ironically was the first one to create the hero units back in AOE3. Sure Jeanne is largely a better combat unit (though some of the AOE3 explorer/hero units were pretty silly like the Daimyo’s who could build a whole army out of nowhere unlike the 3-5 units Jeanne gets).

There have been Hero units in Age of Empires since AoE 1 (Hector, Alexander, Caesar etc etc); in AoE 2 the heroes heal themselves, in AoM they kill mythical units and in AoE 3 and AoE 4 they have special abilities (obviously taken from WC3)…

i doubt that one. aoe 4 was done in few years in comparison for others aoe. civ are feels lazy ones comparing to actual assymetric ones like aoeo or aom. add the fact everyone uses generic ones like aoe 2 to cover the fact the civ design is done so. fe team patched a bit later but the design that everyone has to get a pikle or a maaa that works the same and the ones that works diffently are mostly an min max for the usage on raid or vs a typoe of unit but no somethign uiniques liek a light warrior that have charge attack and effective vs range which is was done before with woads on aoe 2 and aoeo or the basic slinger which is an anti archer on early. The fact you said it is a lie means that you dont understand the potential wasted and the disgust source that this game generated. And we dont even mention other thing like the graphics or the mp focus which let rot the sp content.

again wololo is smth that can break the rule because ti tries to emulate smth that happens historically and is about changing sides which is fine because it represent that one and it became iconic. liberties can be doen but there some boundaries that dont have to be broken

Its a copy from age 2 and the variant ones which become a sort of powercreep (instead of becoming the actual regular one)

You have the right to say to anyone who is wrong or right but this one is a lie to yourself

First, please don’t necro old posts, Second, please don’t necro old post only to deviate the topic to a personal feud, Third, correct your writing, 50% or your complaint is unreadable, which makes you think you wrote it rushed and angry, which almost completely diminishes the importance of the message.

I don’t know how to start, the truth is that you have a totally negative view of the game. There is no discussion of bad words and insults, it is simply best to ignore you.

Aoe IV is inspired by AoE II in many of its mechanics, which is from the same franchise, but it is not a copy, it already has enough different mechanics and game system to be considered a new product. Copying is when you make a product exactly the same as another, of the same quality, and exactly the same in almost all the mechanics or elements (Like Cellphones games which copy mechanics, UI or even sprites of another games).

Although of course discussing this with you is meaningless, you just want to offend with the “copy” word as if it were a insult. I’m over with you.

Even the meaning of the topic was lost.

Jeanne’s inspiration and healing abilities try to emulate stuff that happened historically. She was a figurehead, and morale is incredibly important in winning battles (and wars).

Again, you’re inventing the boundary and saying “this is okay, but this is not”, without actually explaining where that boundary is and what it actually represents.

This. Both share the same setting but 4 takes mechanics from 2, 3 and Mythology.
A better example of a “copy” would be Cossacks 3 which itself is more or less a remake of the first Cossacks.
