And is that something bad? AoE 2 also changed quite a bit over the years and I’m not only talking about DLCs but also about balance changes. 2 recently had a large update that attempts to buff infantry and also introduces new bonusses to the existing civs, so even despite its age (no pun intended), the meta is still shifting. By adding AoE 1 into the game via the Rome DLC, you’ll also attract another playerbase to jump in.
Another not ignorable factor players in AoE 2 is the sheer amount of SP content that the game has to offer. If you’re not that much into MP, you still have a lot of campaigns to play and thanks to the editor, people are also making their own campaigns.
Hi in my opinion the problem with aoe4 is that it feels slugish and the screen feels over saturated, too many thins moving. Look at starcraft 2s buildings, they are not moving, maybe a little flashing light. Also, too much copy and paste between civs, every civ should work differently and have unique units.
Aoe 2 has its own set of problems, but it feels crisp and responsive, my brain is not oversaturated
PS i’ll hope that aoe4 will survive, but i’m in reality. and in given situation it’s unlikely to happen.
it’s better to think how it will survive after Stromgate.
Cause aoe2 “fan-idiots-with-nostalgia” will keep aoe2 alive at some level.
meanwhile, every second pro-player consider aoe4 as “waiting time” before Stormgate.
Some old pro-players wont be able to move and keep playing aoe4… but it can end up as w3 with 2-3 proplayers, with domination. While others will move to Stormgate.
So, rank your priorities between “fan-idiots-with-nostalgia” to “not die cause Stormgate”
So what? What’s your point? I hope this isn’t a racist comment and all nationalities are welcome in AoE. I still don’t understand how this relates to my message.
In south america at least from my experience people mostly play old games. The country I currently live in it is very rare to have a laptop/pc in the house and if you’re 1 of the very few that has 1 then it’s most likely a potato.
So people in general are pretty restricted as to what they can play and in many cases aoe2 de is probably the best game they have access to and can still play easily. South america alone probably makes up a huge portion of aoe2’s playerbase and is something that is very unlikely to change because unless the economies change and the norm is to have your own pc that can play the latest games then people will remain playing old games in some cases certainly down to the fact they have no other option.
It’s the main reason I think it’s quite pointless to try and move aoe2 players to aoe4 because for plenty of them it’s not a possibility at all.
hasan, that pic proves somethign that devs did not care when developing aoe 4: pc requirements which the bar is lower on countries on development which theres a huge chunk on aoe2 from the info we got on that pic which also exp´lain why aoe 4 can’t replace aoe 2.
Age of empires 4 is my favourite game since release but seems like the devs are way to slow doing anything. Most new players will try the game and think is this it and find another game after couple weeks. Can see its happening in coh3 as well. Feels like there’s no passion in making the game great. Do the devs even like playing aoe4. That’s who I want making this game
Top 3 RTS
1.Starcraft 2
2. Aoe 2
3.Aoe4
The top 2 have way more content. Aoe 4 has lowly released new updates with mainly basic features that the other 2 already have and is still way behind.
No game chat lobby
No in game ladder
No clan system
No Co-op modes
The worst user friendly editor, still in beta after a year and nothings changed. And can see on the unofficial moding discord, most of the people that are good at modding have given up
Is the most unstable with, hacks, crashes, frame rates
Most played games, Dota2, counter strike, apex
Free to play
Always getting updated
Gamers these days want regular updates, unlockables, skins, stuff to keep the game fresh
Said in another post was like when they added nomad, there’s no passion in how they did it. Just ad nomad, no ladder, could of add cool looking skins, random nomad modes, no making it a stand out game mode that people want to buy the game to play
I don’t get the lobby anyways. I don’t know about AoE2:DE but I remember voobly being built around a chat lobby with different rooms and all games being displayed. Even SC2 has those chat rooms. Does anyone know why this was never a thing with AoE4? I mean for casual players (but also competitive ones) this is just such a smooth way to just have a little talk/some fun with unknown people and create some connections. After several months on SC2 I’ve literally never been asked for some team games or scenarios as it really is built around competitive play. But on AoE4 it was super easy to make contacts with other players, do some 2v2’s and hang out for a while. Imo devs really could have done some improvements to the lobby to make it easier for people that do not know eachother to connect when not in a game.
The reddit post is from 5 years ago, what could have changed in a short time? What does the peak look like, from that year, it’s the same as they have now
These games have various modes.
For instance, Turbo, long matches, short matches, etc.
In CSGO most people play a 45-50 mins match
Dota2 is 35-45mins
Turbo lasts 2x less time
But, both is full of action.
AOE4 is non-actionless at the start, or I would say it is boring.
Unit combat animations are way too horrible, No one would enjoy it!
DOTA2 and CSGO have great animations. People love it.
But when it comes to AOE4 it is garbage.
This is why no one is interested in AOE4, many streamers are planning to switch from AOE4, and this is continuously happening as they don’t see any dramatic changes.
Yup. Same case with the old Age games. AoE 2 has RM as the most popular mode but also Deathmatch which plays out completly different. It also has Empire Wars which sits somewhere inbetween.
Same case with AoE 3 which has Supremacy where you can win through various ways (Conquest, Trade, Revolution) and it also has Treaty and Empire Wars.
AoE 4 on the other hand has one official game mode with three goals (Landmark, Sacred Sites, Wonder), has Regicide as an official mod and recently got Nomad as a mode, however, most will only play the “Standard” mode.
That’s true, the DE are the best versions of their respective games…
Yeah, they released the DE in the first place for a reason…to pave the way for AoE 4…
That’s true… I have the chance to play DE and 4, but I know I’m only a minority…
Yes, besides AoE 2 has cooperative historical campaigns and battles, AoE 3 has cooperative historical maps and battles… even AoEO has cooperative campaigns…
I wonder if this post was made to trigger AoE2 players?
I hope AoE4 will become good enough to replace AoE2DE.
There are still things missing and some things should be changed.
It’s often the small things that make people not like a game.
Like clicking on things feel worse in AoE4, that sounds like a super small thing but it adds up. I often wonder if I actually managed to set the rely point onto the sheep or tree correctly, and it happened a few times that I had villagers stand idle because I didn’t.
An issue that AoE2/3DE doesn’t have.
