I suggest new Korean unique unit

Please understand I’m not good at English. I’m Korean.

I wuold like to introduce Korean middle-age weapon.

This weapon is “Geomcha” (meaning “Sword Wagon” in English).

Geomcha was used by Korean troops in early 11 century to fight against Khitans cavalries.

So this weapon was same roll with spearman in AOE2. Strong against cavalries.

This is just My guess, maybe Geomcha can be father of Hwacha (which is going to be called as “Rocket cart” in English)

Many Korean people don’t like the present unique unit “war wagon”.

Because we think “war wagon” is looking like Chinese style.

There was similar weapon.

However, as you see this picture, this was not used like cavarly archer.

This weapon is similar weapon with Hussite Wagon.

Maybe if AOE2 ascertains perfectly, there can be appear duplication problem with Hussite Wagon.

So I think Geomcha is gonig to be good idea.

I’m not sure I wrote correct English. Please understand English is not my mother language.

So this unit is a rocket cart with lances in the front to protect against cav charges ? It would be hard to translate ingame as there is no concept of charge damage (except for select few units like the coustillier and even then it’s just having the first attack stronger) nor directional damage at all, while it should punish frontal cav charges.

Maybe giving the rocket cart extra melee defence and removing minimal range would portray it closely enough, making it still able of punishing very close enemy units.

Oh, that’s very good idea.

I like this message from a Korean. I never liked war wagon. Too artificial. Too blocky.

The same thing. The War wagon looks far too clunky and does not historically fit to Korea. I have never liked it, really not.

This is the best I could come up with. Same unit, same stats, same projectile, even same name, which doesn’t even make sense, but still fits the Koreans better than the current war wagon.

I would rather have this then what we have now.

I though it is the rocket cart? the new unit will replace magonel - line in severals civs?

Yes, notably for the Chinese (who’ll get a massive overhaul).

Would be nice to replace it by something more accurate, though I’d keep the current War Wagon as a Scenario Editor unit, which has been used in custom scenarios to represent a travelling carriage.
However, the sneak peek showed that Mamelukes will still be scimitar throwers on Bactrian camels, so a big change to an ES unit design doesn’t seem to be so likely…

Anyway, I’d also like to see a soldier in Korean attire. If I’m not mistaken, there isn’t any such unit yet, not even in the Editor.

The Koreans are on the other hand infamous for having been forced top-down by Microsoft a few weeks before the expansion was due, for the sole reason of courting the korean market. Hence how inaccurate and weird it feels. If there is one civ that would lose the protection of being that old, it’s them.

I think it’s pretty easy to see how the war wagon turned out the way it did. Back in 2000, it was much harder to find information about anything. The ES devs had presumably read that the Koreans used wagons for warfare, thought it sounded like it would make an interesting unique unit, but didn’t have access to any images or descriptions with much detail. The description from The Conquerors manual even mentions “hints from scant records”. Thus they designed the unit based on a combination of imagination and the small amount of information they had.

There are various ways they could be made more historically accurate visually, and I’m hoping that the new elite graphics for them will have dokkaebi faces on it, like this:

But I enjoy playing as Koreans, and I definitely don’t want the gameplay function of war wagons to change significantly. I’m already a bit apprehensive about the upcoming changes to Koreans, which seem like an unnecessary nerf on land maps (including a direct nerf to the war wagon itself).

I appreciate the effort, but I don’t think it makes much sense to have two units with different functions that look almost identical except one is pulled by horses.
