I was wrong about this game

It’s actually pretty fun. The reason I didn’t like it so much before was because the difficulty was set too low. Once I set it to Moderate, the AI was actually a challenge, and I started to enjoy myself.

Unfortunately, it’s too hardware-intensive for my laptop, and the only computer it’s on is my parents’, who I no longer live with, so I rarely get any opportunities to play it. I’ve only had about three sessions.

Eventually, once I have a better computer, I’ll buy it, as it turned out to actually be enjoyable.

Not even with minimun settings? My PC is 10 years old and can run it at minum

Hope to see more new and improving players join the player base as the upcoming major update/civs are not to far away now.

Just a tip once you can beat Extreme Ai constantly with out walls or cheeseing with other buildings; means your economy should be on point enough for most mid level online play. (if you can just survive the first 2 attacks of an extreme ai its easy to say good enough with whatever build your doing as the ai is not all that good in combat)

The space required alone takes up what is left on my laptop, probably more, since I’ve acquired files since I last checked.

50 GB, that’s like 50 pirate copies of Lord of the Rings.

Heavy.

For anyone looking to get AoM-Retold, better clear some space, because it might just weight around 35 GB on release, 10 more with DLCs.

Just checked. That’s twice the amount of space I have left on my laptop.

I suppose I should buy an external hard drive. My family has been encouraging me to for a while now, because I don’t have enough space on my computer to do even a third of the things I want to do.

TIP:
If you can afford and/or brave the process, try to change by yourself your current disc for an “SSD” (Solid state drive), instead of an “HDD” (Hard disk drive).

I had to do so in my laptop:

  • I studied for hours how to upgrade my specific laptop.
  • Got an SSD twice the size of the current HDD, and an external case for the SSD.
  • Passed all the files and windows software into the new drive with “Macrium Software”.
  • Opened the laptop, switched them, closed the laptop.
  • And got everything running smoothly (It’s been 4 years and nothing has glitched at all).

After that I got a faster computer and an external drive for files I don’t use as often.

BEWARE THOUGH, it’s a delicate process, but worth it, way cheaper than asking a technician to do so or straight up buying a new computer.

Adding to what Jordi said (wena Jordi), I suggest saving for a 2 TB SDD. Future proof is better than past lamenting.

If you buy a 1 TB, 500 GB or whatever less, you WILL run out of space eventually. With 2 TB, that moment will be far in the future.

There are cheap SSD in Aliexpress. I bought a 2 TB Netac SSD for 120 USD.
Buy some RAM too, if you can

There are a few things I still don’t really like about AoE 3 (e.g. Snare being turned up to 11 while in AoM it was more subtle) but overall absolutely underrated game. I’m glad DE fixed some bad design choices of the original such as already having all cards available instead of having to grind for them.

People were saying Tilanus mentioned something about experimenting with how snare works. So that might be something that is reworked soon.

I’ve heard people saying Tilanus said this or that but where? He has not been on the forum or discord

People were saying it on the discord. Maybe it was on a stream.

He said this on an Yukietty stream, the summary he is willing to PUP or internal test ways to drop the snared unit from a selection so speed overall of a grouping isn’t effected. However, he was concerned there would be other issues (pathing, unit behavior, engine limitations) that would make this not work/worth it. He was thinking to try it and seemed willing to give it a go for the upcoming patch that we have 0 idea when or if will drop

I understand why many people dislike snare but at the same time it looks silly to me to see cav gallop at full speed surrounded by a group of pikes. Maybe nerfing it a little as Big T is attempting to do will be a happy medium?

The one issue I can think of is this is going to make melee AoE units disproportionately better since they’ll be able to snare many more units with each attack. Maybe a 0 damage snare AoE could make it so all units in melee could snare a small group? Or maybe a change like this would actually give a slight benefit for trample mode since it deals area damage and could help for snaring.

I don’t know what you guys are talking about. What is snare?

the slow effect upon a unit that is attacked on melee

Some units also do this with ranged attacks.

I’ve always thought that grenadiers should snare once they’ve investigated incendiary grenades.

Responding to the main topic:

I’m glad you like the game.

Well there!!!..I hope you can love the game…and yes, AoE 3 is a game that requires a lot of hardware (normal seeing the graphics it has)…

Yes, AoM Retold is not going to go below 45-50 GB…

I didn’t dislike grinding cards, but I understand why they removed the grinding…

Interesting…we’ll see what they do with the snare…

Yes, I agree…it’s quite a topic…

Snare is a status effect in Age of Mythology, Age of Empires III and Age of Empires Online that reflects a speed movement penalty applied to units being affected by hand attacks and some ranged units.

Of course, the snare was applied so that the cavalry did not destroy all the infantry…
