Does anyone have any ideas for Gods, MUs (including special abilities) or GPs for current Civs?
I’d want to see Hathor return as a the fourth major Egyptian god. Good way to bring her back into the game and to separate her from Sobek. There are some other cool gods that I’d love to see including the vulture-headed god Nekhbet, hippo-headed god Taweret and the baboon-headed God Babi.
A sand giant (with a head like a sphinx) for Egyptians would be cool. His special is dispersing into sand, concealing allies and damaging enemies for a short time. Return of Apep would be nice.
I would like to see the return of some of the MUs and GPs that were not carried over from Tale of the Dragon: Monkey King, Terracotta Warrior (but change his special to a dust that conceals allies for a short period) Jiangshi, Uproot, Earth Dragon. Thought they were cool in concept, just poorly executed.
For Greeks, they could bring back griffins, sirens and harpies. Harpies could carry away a human soldier (instant kill) returning to the battle field after a short period.
Atlanteans would be tough, because they share Greek mythology. So you’d need a lot of unique ideas to make this one work.
Just curious what ideas you guys have floating around in your head for what would make for cool and unique additions?
For the Egyptians, I think Amun would be a good pick for the major god. Ram headed, and important enough in Egyptian mythology to be considered to be the same diety as Zeus by the Greeks, and later merged with Ra into Amun-Ra as the religion evolved.
For the Greeks, Hestia and Demeter are both popular picks for forth major gods. Some people go for an amazonian theme in their suggestions. But I agree with what you said about griffins and sirens. Harpies are already in the game, as rendom birds in the underworld, which is a bit underwealming.
A fourth major god for the Atlanteans is not THAT hard to find. I saw suggestions like Nyx, Typhon, Khaos, etc. But personally, I’d go for Pontos for several reasons.
For the Chinese, Hu Huang is an obvious pick for a fourth major god, and Chang’e an obvious one for a minor goddess.
Oh, that would be a good choice too. So long as Hathor gets her own spotlight somewhere, I wouldn’t really mind. I personally like Gods that are hybrid creatures, which is why some of the Egyptian god concepts are the coolest.
Penthesilea as a hero, and the Amazonian as a unique unit, like the Myrmidon or the Heatrios, that works absolutely. Some people go as far as making all the military units women. Like, female hoplite, female toxote, female hippeus, and so on. I think that basically defeats the purpose of unique units.
I can get behind all female heroes, tho I can’t think of many, spontanously, that aren’t alredy in the game, and I would like to have Hector and Paris added as heroes as well.
I would love to see another one focused on the Amazons or Scythians. But i think they deserve their own civilization.
Not only Greek. They also have lots of things from other pantheons like Mesopotamian and Levant. Atlanteans more feel like Romans who have pieces from everywhere around the Mediteranean and western Asia.
Penthesilea and Hippolyta are Troy Total War: expansion Amazons.
Greek: Hestia or Demeter obviously. It’s an olympian thing you know
Egypt: For me personally Apophis. Definitely Apophis. (Maat would be a goddess i would love to see as a minor god in the future, even if it sounds contradictory for her as a minor god under the major god Apophis haha)
Amun would be (warning: personal subjective opinion) a little bit boring because he’s one of these ‘‘he’s everything’’ guys if you know what i mean. He’s basically the Re+ Abo.
Atlanteans: There are so many possibilities. Mnemosyne, Phoibe, Kreios, Typhon, Khaos, Nyx and so on. Everything would be cool.
Chinese: I don’t know to be honest. I don’t know enough about chinese mythology to pick a favorite for me.
Egypt: I agree Apophis would be badass (and also cause I loved to watch Stargate as a kid)
But Maat would be cool too. Amun would make sense too.
Atlantean: Nyx all the way for me personally. Even I do see Khaos as a possibility too. Pontos would be a great mythic age god and should be changed with either Hekate or Atlas for Gaia (aswell as Persephone for hades as soon as she hopefully will come)
Greek: as already mentioned multiple times either Demeter or Hestia for sure. (or at best Hera)
Chinese: also not enough into Chinese myth (yet) but I would have assumed the jade emperor as the most obvious.
I would love to see them again. We only got Terracotta Riders now.
It would be cool to see the foot soldiers return too. I like the idea of making them lose HP when they leave favoured land.
Maybe make a unit that heals on favoured land but loses HP outside of it.
The Chinese mythology that they used this time is not a mish-mash of stuff from all periods of Chinese history, going back more than 3000 BCE for the major gods and all minor gods being pre-dynastic to early-dynastic periods. So I really doubt you’re going to see the likes of Sun Wukong (Monkey King) who is a character from the 16th century; although he could possibly return in the form of the Hindu god Hanuman. I also suspect that we would likley get Shangdi over Yudi (Jade Emperor), as Shangdi was the supreme deity during the Shang and early Zhou dynasties of about 1600~1000 BCE, whereas Yudi (Jade Emperor) arose later with Daoism during the Han Dynasty from 206-220 CE and became prominent during the Song Dynasty from 960 - 1279 CE. As for minor gods, perhaps Xiwangmu, “Queen Mother of the West”, and Dongwanggong, “King Father of the East”? They were sister and brother counterparts with a yin-yang balance. Xiwangmu was originally a fearsome goddess with tiger-like features, associated with death, disease, and chaos; but later evolved into a benevolent goddess of immortality with Daoism. Dongwanggong is associated with life, order, and the rising sun.
With Greeks, I see a lot of suggestions for Demeter and Hestia. I think it will be Demeter with Hestia being a minor god. But just to toss another idea out there, especially if they someday get around to doing a 5th major god for civs, then maybe Hera could still work. Yes, I know she is a Mythic age minor god exclusive for Zeus, but she is married to him and so they could do the reverse of that and have Zeus as one of her Mythic age choices with Lightning Storm as a god power.
For Atlanteans, I guess there are still Titans they could use.
For Egypt, I think Hathor would be a good guess. I suspect that’s why she really got pulled and replaced with Sobek. Could also be Amun, or both if they do 5 major gods.
For a 5th Norse major god, the only idea I have so far would be to replace Freyja with maybe Eir (like Sobek did to Hathor) and make Freyja a major god.
I don’t have many ideas for the other pantheons, but for the Greeks, perhaps Nyx, the goddess of the night, could be an interesting major god. She embodies mystery, darkness, and the unknown imagine what you could do with that in the game!
I can see her work well in both pantheons actually, however if I’d pick one pantheon to have her as the next major god it’d be the Greeks. But there are plenty of gods to choose from so no matter who they pick, I’m sure it’s going to be a nice addition
For Egypt, Neith could be the next major God/Goddess. Her focus would be hunting and the wilds. Hathor as her minor God, and also Khnum could be considered, the important creator God of Upper Egypt. Hapi, the God of the Nile should be added too.
For Greeks, Demeter as a main Goddess with Hestia and maybe Eros and Persephone as minor Gods. Hades would get Persephone to replace one of his minor Gods.
I don’t know about you guys… But I have an idea about the 4th Chinese major god that is Yan Luo Wang (Chinese’s King of Hell)
I recommend him because he symbolize hell and mortality ( in Chinese, number 4 sounds like death too) so it only fitting for him to be the 4th and he will be focusing on favor return (units that been killed in battle can give favors as compensation)
I envisioned him to have GP that ressurect workers and Kuafus 10 seconds after they have been killed by enemy raid (they come back in hologram, ghost like forms)
Well… Its just my opinion for I think its fun to have him after Immortal Pillars hype
I highly doubt it. While he is ruler of the underworld, he does not have the same importance as a foundational or supreme ruler deity. And if you read my post a few messages above yours, I explained that the gods used for the Chinese were all from pre-dynastic to early-dynastic periods. Yanluo Wang didn’t become prominent until the Tang Dynasty (618–907 CE) and beyond. And even if they did expand into later periods with a 4th major god, they would obviously do Jade Emperor over of him, but he could be a minor god in that case.
I think it’ll be Shangdi, who while different and over a millennia apart, is basically the predecessor to the Jade Emperor (Yudi) as a supreme ruler god.
