I want to see Tanegashima(Gun) in Japan or Frankish Paladin in Frank
I want to see Great Bombard for Turks.
It has packed and unpacked form as trebuchet, train from castle in imperial age, no elite upgrade and effective against buildings. For compairing with generic trebuchets;
more expensive
train slower
moves slower
15 range and +2 with artielly
packs and unpacks faster
has more hp
has more attack
bonus damage against stone walls and ships if it can hit
Some ideas for AoK and AoC civs:
- Britons: Billmen (mix between Milita and Spearline)
- Byzantines: Varangian Guards (Infantry that is stronger close to defensive buildings)
- Celts: Gallowglass (Slow Infantry opposite of current UU)
- Chinese: Already have two
- Franks: I donât like the idea of giving them a unique Paladin because the current one is very French already
- Goths: Mounted Slinger (replaces Hand Cannon and Bombard Cannon for them)
- Japanese: Ashigaru (cheaper Hand Cannon)
- Mongols: No good idea that isnât already taken like Keshik or Steppe Lancer
- Persians: Already have two
- Saracenes: Dervish (Infantry that can switch between Melee and Ranged attack (same as Immortal from Chronicles))
- Teurons: Crusader Knight (heavily armoured Knight that canât be converted)
- Turks: Great Bombard (More expensive but stronger version of the Bombard Cannon)
- Vikings: Already have two
- Aztecs: Atlatl Warrior (none trash Skirmisher)
- Huns: no idea, even the Tarkan is made up already
- Koreans: Already have two
- Maya: Holocan Spearman (Pikeman with bonus damage vs. buildings)
- Spanish: Already have two
Civs with regional units kinda feel unique enough already like Mongols or Mayans.
Some civs like Franks and Britons should maybe just stay âboringâ.
I dont want to see every civi get as second uu but its a good way represent other regions they cover.
Byzantines varangian guards
Slavs cossacks
Teutons Landsknecht
Clets Gallowglass
Turks akinji
Sarcens somekinda unit to represent bedouin tribes
Malay orang lauts
Frnaks templars
Japanese ninjas
Goths huns fedoratii
Liths bulgars slavs boyar becomes a shared
Aztec blowgunner
Maya beehive thrower
Britons mounted xbow
Bulgars something to represent slavic footman
Burmese Ahmudan
Bengalis Habshis
Khmer phâkak warriors
Mongols Nokud
Cumans Naqivchaqari
Georgians Aznauri
Sicilians almogrvers
Magyars fusiliers
Mali mandika cavalry
Eithopia nubian archers aka archers of the eyes
Making the Great Bombard a Trebuchet replacement is actually a better idea then replace the Bombard Cannon, so the Bombard Cannon can keep itâs anti Siege role and the Great Bombard is more of an anti building unit.
That would actually be a pretty cool unit. Infantry that does AoE damage maybe.
Would that be an Infantry or Cavalry and what unique abilities would it have?
Maybe Cavalry that can heal units (but not pick up relics).
Cavalry unit and gimmick would be much stornger than paladin none convertable and last hit would deal more damage to enemies.they fought to the last man and did not convert to anything else.
Malians - Mandekalu Cavalry or Ton-tigi
Teutons - Landsknecht
Huns - Hunnic Horse Archer
Aztecs - Otomi
Maya - Holcan Spearmen
Franks - Caballlari
Byzantines - Immortals
Spanish - Almogavar
Mongols - Kharash
Goths - Gothic Cavalry
Japanese - mounted samurai and Ashigaru
Turks - Sipahi
Britons - Hobilars
Battle for Greece civs:
Achaemenids - Sparabara
Athenians - Scythian mercenary
Thracians - Thracian Peltast
Their gimmic could be that they are stronger when outnumbered.
The Spartans have a UT that makes their Hoplites stronger the more enemies are nearby. A variation could be that they are weaker the more allies are around too. So like +1 attack for every 5 enemies but -1 for every allied unit nearby (from +0 to +5).
What would that be like?
Otomi are an ethnicity not a type of unit. You mean the Otomi Slinger from AoE3?
Immortals???
What makes a Cavalry Gothic?
This is bad design, you should not get negetively affected for anything unless its something the enemy has done to you eg hun ut.
Immortals???
Athanatoi Immortals (Byzantine Empire) - Wikipedia
Otomi are an ethnicity not a type of unit. You mean the Otomi Slinger from AoE3?
We cant use the term immortals as its already ingame now.
ok let me rephrase the bonus:
- +1 attack for every 5 more then allied units nearby
There is no negative attack from allied units, just a bonus when there are more enemies then allies nearby so you donât get a bonus if itâs just 2 large armies fighting.
The question is why would you train this unit when you can train Paladins, or if the unit is strong, why train Paladins if you can train this unit? Thatâs why I like the idea of giving them a healing ability, this way they mix well with Paladins.
Ah ok. Then the Greek name would probably be better.
Yeah but what kind of unit would they be?
I think itâs more interesting to think about gameplay aspects then names.
You get an extra punch in castel age when there are no paladins yet.Any uu is something you can train not a must.Im not a fan of civi design when you are forced to use your uus only.
I hate civ designs where UUs are too similar to generic units which leads to you either only using the UU or only the generic unit because you donât want to upgrade both.
I like UUs that add to a unit composition and especially ones that are a different unit type from the one you have a bonus for. Like an Archer civ with an Infantry UU instead of an Archer UU.
So I like the Throwing Axeman. Itâs not a cavalry but they are good against many units that the Knights/Paladins are bad against. But they are also not must have have since there are other units to counter those enemy units as well.
In game units that could be secondary uus.
Byzantines flame thrower
Slavs nordic warrior
Teutons crusader knight
Clets
Turks Qizilbash
Sarcens eastern swordsman
Malay sunda warrior
Frnaks heavy xbow
Japanese ninjas
Goths Jarl
Huns Scythian Horse Archer
Aztec iroqs warrior
Maya canoe
Britons bandit
Bulgars hill tribesman
Burmese envoy
Bengalis indian tribesman
Khmer junk
Mongols Khan
Cumans cuman chief
Georgians
Sicilians
Magyars heavy pikeman
Mali soso guard
Eithopia archers of the eyes
Iâd like to know more about this concept, please.
No, first mention of cossacks is in 1489, it âs too close to the end of medieval time.
IMHO so-called Slavs should be reworked to Rus, due to Bulgars, Czech and Poles are also slavs and have ther own facrions. Maybe also Serbs should be added in this case.
No, man. Qizilbash are turkoman Shia people, allies to Persians, they are opposed to Ottomans.
Not related to medieval time.
Any mention about Aztecs using Iroquis warriors as allies, please. (are you serious? rofl)
Any mention of these kind of units in historical sources, please. The same is for archers of the eyes will be good, but they are in-game already so i donât insist
.
IMHO the irony this unit dissappeared as feudal fragmentation (or Castle age) started, so it could not meet the full-plate cavalry (Gothic knights, in-game Paladins).
Puts them in line with Conquistadors. But I donât like the idea either.
Bulgaria has hills, source Google Maps.
Kiev was founded by Vikings so the Norse warrior makes sense. Novgorod and other cities also often hired Norse warriors.
Not really a good unit though. But Iâm generally against reusing existing Scenario Editor only units.
yeah. Unfortunately this historical error has been in the game for too long to be fixed. Like horn on Viking helmet.
They are just too iconic to be changed that significantly.
Norse made the rus principalities so viking warrior fits them.Hill tribesmen is based off dacians/thracians units so close proximity also they look like balkan soldier to me.
These guys dont even fit the skralings but we have them in game so deal with it.
You have scythians in first two hun campaigns.
Do you have anyone else that can have them except persians?
We have winged polish hussars ingame.
Knight line can be replaced by the boyar and elite boyar similar to hei guang cavalry for 3k factions.Only slavs will need a uu change. Also this will fix the odd state of lithuanians having paladins and poles dont.
I fully agree that slavs could be renamed to rus for better represntation.
Obviously this is just a thought experment nothing more,we dont need secondary uus for everyone or need to reuse editor units.
