With Immortal Pillars re-adding the Chinese after the original version got scrapped in Retold, I happen to wonder what civs that don’t exist yet in AoM could we see in future DLCS? For me, I so far have one idea, and that idea is the Romans. Romans would definitely be a good addition to the AoM civ roster because we can explore famous features and characters of Roman mythology. I also had Scythians in mind, but I need to learn more about their mythology first.
I’ve heard some very interesting ideas around having a Celtic civ, though anything “pagen” would be interesting.
I think it would be very difficult to make a roman civ interesting, there would be such a big overlap with greeks and atlanteans it would just feel lopsided. It might be better for just another major god that has some roman flair, not a whole civ.
Los romanos son el copy paste de los griegos, solo que con otros nombres. Seria bueno la civilización Inca que es muy diferente con los Aztecas que la mayoria menciona cuando hablan de indígenas se les viene en mente el pasado de mexico
A Babylonian (or Sumerian) pantheon would be perfect. But next to that, Mayan or Celts would be welcome too.
Celts, Mayans, Slavs, Hindus, Babylonians (Sumerians, Assyrians, Akkadians I get them all confused), Caananites/Phoenecians in that order. But I believe the next civ will be Japanese. A native American civ might be cool too.
My favorite civ in order : Aztec, Maya, Sumerian, Babylonians, Japanese, Hindu, Roman
Mesopotamians, Persians, Indians, Scythians, Celts, Mayans. They’re all good contenders. Maybe the Olmecs? i dont know their pantheon sadly.
I forgot Romans! They could be a more militaristic Greece maybe. But I think Aztecs wouldn’t be a good choice compared to the Mayans. They are just too modern. The Norse, Greeks, etc. you can fit because they are kind of timeline agnostic (as opposed to calling them vikings for example). And the Aztec empire didn’t last long and pantheon were very limited compared to the Mayans.
This topic feels like discussed plenty of times already but here we go:
I personally think the safest bet are Mayan/Aztec next Mesopotamian/Babylonian and Celt are high contenders too.
I think a vote would be nice
Aztec, Maya, Sumerian, Babylonians,Hindu.
What I am most looking forward to are designs full of mystery, primitiveness, barbarism, and power, which are a true portrayal of humanity’s exploration of civilization step by step from ignorance in ancient mythology
Pretty sure they are already working on the next dlc even they are just in the concept phase.
I am very certain we get the other DLC this year but more somewhere between late summer and early winter.
I personally like the idea of having Incas or Aztecs, but I’m ok with everything they bring
@Innigop yes in fact I agree with you, every new pantheon would be great for a fan of mythology
I mean, the developers could easily just call them Nahuas and then develop the Aztecs with a Toltec background. I believe the term ‘Mexica’ might work as well.
The Aztecs wouldn’t appear too futuristic compared to the other civilizations. Place them in any time period, and they would fit pretty well, in my opinion.
If we are strictly talking about the time period when the Nahua-speaking people became the Aztecs, then sure, it may be a ‘short’ period. But that shouldn’t matter, as there is a TON of Aztec lore and information the developers can use to justify and create a civilization based on it.
The Romans would be a wasteful use of resources as we already have 2 civilisations in the game that are based on Greek mythology. We don’t need a 3rd.
My top picks would be an Indian/Hindu civilisation, and/or a Mesoamerican civilisation such as the Maya or Aztecs. I think these choices would offer the most inspiration for unique gameplay mechanics, mythological creatures, military units, and architectural styles. They would also be some of the most geographically diverse too.
My 3rd place pick would be a Mesopotamian civilisation like Sumer or Babylon, as it feels odd that the cradle of civilisation itself is missing from the game.
haha i start thinking romans are more needed than i thought so people can learn about the ‘‘non greek’’ roman mythology before they a adapted the greek mythology. This ‘‘romans would be another greek pantheon’’ thing really needs to stop in my opinion.
But yes, sumerian/babylonian culture, and celtic culture would be my favorites beside romans.
And of course mayans would be cool too.
Don’t forget, just my opinion. Have a nice day
I hope for Maya and Sumeria, that’s all I want. They can do whatever they want next after those two.
Synchretism between polytheistic religions wasn’t a rare thing in antiquity. During the lifetime of Alexander the Great, there were temples that worshipped Amun, the ram headed Egyptian god, and Zeus as the same diety. “We all worship the same gods, we just gave them different names in different cultures/languages, and draw them differently in statues and paintings” was a common idea.
Julius Caesar wrote that the Gauls primarily worship Merkur, and historians struggle to figure out which Celtic god Ceasar believed to have identified as Merkur to this day.
Neither of those mean that a Gods Pack with Amun would just be Zeus again, but for the Egyptians, nor does it mean that the Celts would get Hermes as a Major God, just with a different name.
If this DLC doesnt get more players I have really bad news for you, the only DLCs are the promised ones in the premium edition and thats it. Theyre rellocating to aoe2 and 4
