It would be bet if there were an Option tabs called “Cosmetics” with multiple options like:
Unique Castles.
Unique Monks
Unique Monasteries.
And call can be turned on/off. If turned off you get the classical/architecture look of the Castle or unit. The default is on “yes” to all but you can manually disable what you don’t like. This way everyone is happy.
Well besides that one guy that hates every possible feature because he thinks it could break the game and make it unplayable.
This will surely ruin path finding.
There is this one guy that spammed my thread because he thinks that any technical change to the game is bad because it might break things. The developers should only fix bugs and add new things that are just different numbers.
But yes there are also people that hate everything that is not AoK or AoC and want like a ranked list for only those civs.
Oh and of course those people that want to run AoE2DE on a 15 years old computer so they are afraid of any change that could cost more performance or require more disk space.
If they really expand on the idea of regional unit visuals (regional military units and villagers) i would throw a party for days. A BIG childhood dream would come true to be honest. And the new announced update is FINALLY a sign that this is a thing that could come true.
But i can understand people that want it ‘‘old school’’ or just as ‘‘easy to read’’ as possible. I mean there are mods and options in the game that turn the trees tiny and convert the landscape into squared paper. Something i would never use but for really competitive players these options are absolutely understandable tools. So a toggle for ‘‘old school all the same’’ units would be a no-brainer.
But in the end, if a big visual update like this will come, and if it will not have a toggle option at launch, there will be a simple mod for that at day (or maybe week) one. I’m very sure about that. So i don’t think anyone needs to worry about that in the end.
