Imperial Pikeman?

The new civ has this new unit and has all the generic infantry upgrades. To help this civ utilize this unit they get all the spearmen upgrades 50% cheaper. The Imperial Pikeman is very similar to a halberdier, just 5 more hip points. However they get plus one range. It is also a shared team bonus unit with allies. Vikings cannot create this unit since they lack the halberdier upgrade.

How much should this upgrade cost?

You mean Swiss Pikeman/Mercenary?

Hip points are important but ribcage and ankle points are vital as well. Dont forget coolness factor to stay hip.

Halberdier with +5 HP and +1 Range would be OP.Also dravidians already hae cheaper upgrades.

But I would in general like to see different Halberdier skins. There are also a lot of culturally different pike adaptations that can be used for it. The Halberd though isn’t even a Pike anymore.
We have stuff like Bill, Partisan or Glaive which could be names for the different imperial variants.

I prefer imperial skirmisher instead of imp pike.

A uu already has this no point of giving this to a generic unit.

Terrible name for the unit btw.

what???
no these were real weapons they used against cavalry, what’s your problem?

Yeah, I get that. But they’re also long-ranged melee weapons in another game I like. They go by those exact names. Don’t mind me. All the standard weapons in said game are named after real or mythological weapons.

Maybe if you come from asia you might be more familiar with naginata or yari?
But these are the ones used in europe.

Yeah, I get that. The game in question was made in Japan, so I think those devs went with more exotic weapon names that were more obscure for Japanese audiences, aside from the obvious Sword, Saber, Dagger, etc.

For me, because I grew up around that game, much of my first exposure to common European weapon names was from that game, so that’s where my association lies.

Anyway, in the game in question, the Partisan weapon line is basically a long glaive that’s swung horizontally and deals damage to multiple enemies in front simultaneously. Such a mechanic could potentially be adapted for a unit in AoE2.

To have the +1 range this Imperial Pikeman has to have pretty low attack, even lower than the Pikeman.

But maybe the currently untrainable Heavy Pikeman could be a unique upgrade of Pikeman for a new civ, maybe the Vlachs.
