[IMPORTANT] For the moderators/developers: Age of Empires III need to be fixed: Crash & Disconnections

Hello Everyone.
There is an issue with this game, that makes it almost unplayable and It’s a shame, because everything on it its perfect, except for this wich can be EASILY fixed.

This the issue; Everytime anyone is disconnected from a game, or it crashes, its over. You are out of the game for ever. So the game is ruined for everyone.
This is easy to be fixed. I’m not saying to fix crashing or disconection. Just allow players to reenter if they have been disconnected or their game has crashed.

This was ok at 2010, but not at 2021, where in every single game, even phone games (Clash Royal, Hearthsone), if you lost your connection, once you reestart the game, you can cotinue the match.

This makes AOEIII unplayable, since happens a lot of time. I think it’s urgent for this to be fixed, and I’m surprised it has not been done, with all the care this game is having with all the updates and news civilizations that are being implemented.

Sorry for my english, I’m not native. I hope developers can read this and take action. This would make a huge change to the community. Me myself stopped playing because of this, and I love the game.
Now I’ve seen the Mexican Expansion and damn, I want to buy and play it, but It’s impossible due all the crashing and disconnecting issues.

Thanks for reading.

Hi @UriTesla,

This is not happening on my side . Just to be sure, I recommend you to try some stuff:

  1. In steam, in AOE3 game, Properties → Local Files → Verify Integrity of game files
  2. Reinstall the game
  3. Unable your mods
  4. Uninstall/unable your antivirus
  5. Reinstall your graphic drivers
  6. Update direct X
  7. Delete your user files

For deleting your user files, you should:

  1. Go to C:\Users\YOUR_USER\Games\Age of Empires 3 DE
  2. Copy your user folder to a safe place, it has lots of numbers.
  3. Delete the original and open the game again. A new user folder will be created

If this works, then copy back the files from your old user folder. Those files are in the folder
C:\Users\YOUR_USER\Games\Age of Empires 3 DE<0>\Savegame, Home cities, Recorded Games and Save games.

If after this you, or another person who is reading this post still have crashes and disconnections, please let me know!

Thanks

My game is fine, it’s not about me. It happens to everyone.
Maybe not if you play 2v2 or games that are no longer than 30 minutes.

But if you play Treaty games, 4v4 games, or games that last more than 1 hour, you’ll see people disconnecting during the middle of the game very often.

What needs to be fixed is, that in case you get disconnected or someone games crashes, you should be allowed to join the game again.

A mi no me pasa. (pocas veces le pasa).
Pasa bastante a otros jugadores.

El problema aquí, es que una vez se les desconecta, ya no puedes volver a unirte a la partida si reabres el juego.
Eso se debería arreglar

Hey @UriTesla,

From reading this topic it seems you are asking for a new feature to be added to allow reconnections to games while they are still in session.

In the case of an unexpected disconnection or brief network loss, players are automatically queued to re-enter the game. This is displayed with a message that will state “attempting to re-establish connection”.

If the player left intentionally, force quit, or otherwise or timed out of the auto-reconnect then they will not be able to re-enter the game.

If all players are disconnected due to an out of sync, one player is nominated to re-host the game and the other players are automatically invited to the new lobby. Each player will be prompted to download the save shared from the host, ready-up and continue the match.

Hope this helps!
