That explains why they intend to make this new Dawn of War 4 much bigger, with more units on screen and a ton of animations happening all at once.

Returning to main topic of this post AoE IV has been improved on Graphics department quite a lot since OG 2021 release. As you can see there have been quite a lot of improvements on the details aspect plus an overhaul they have done to the water *except for rivers

The thing is it still lacks resolution of its textures and material choose/optimization. Those materials look like plastic, foam, or something else that is intended to be metallic.

The curious case of AoE 4 graphics (lots of screenshots)

I’ve never seen a game that has so much eye candy potential but at the same time being so wasted. From the regular camera angle you would never realize, but AoE 4 is filled with little graphical details like puddles, reflections, god rays, buildings with torches that light up their surroundings. But for some reason all of this is hidden unless you really look for it. And I mean REALLY. All the while, these graphics details are eating up resources but remain out of view.
