In fact I think AOE3 do not need new civs dlc

Friend,you have news about that?

Hey guys, remember that time Age of Empires 2 had a campaign only DLC and how everybody loved it?

That totally happened, true and real!

I disagree! Need a maximum of 30 or 33 to make it a nice symbolic number!
Players wanted civs:
Poland and Danes (most)
Ukraine and Tatars (also an important)
Persian and Oman (also an important)
Brazil and Argentina
Two African civs?
Korean?
Question marks on dubious civilizations, but I’m not against them either! I’ll buy everything!

YES, that happened in AOE2, and contrast every AOE2 DLC’s comment count in steamit may represent the sales volume)we can see the Victors and Vanquished DLC is the second famous one. That happens under this premise that AOE2 have a lot of campaigns. And AOE3 lacks campaigns very much.

personally, it isn’t about number, it’s about variety and exploring parts of the world that are perfect for a unique civ with an unique architecture

They lack the integrity and respect, not the skill.

IIRC people wanted Brazil and Argentina the most
Due to USA and Mexico, and wars of liberty.

People never cared about Poland and Danes until the DLC was announced.

They hate this game.

Source? I’ve seen most here want Brazil/Argentina the least while wanting anything else much more (Poland, Denmark, Persia, Korea etc), especially after being disappointed from both USA and Mexico being released before KoTM.

Wrong, people always wanted Poland and Denmark as full civs, which make more sense than Malta and frankenstein Italy where many begged for anachronistic crossbows.

Argentina has a massively outsized number of players compared to the country’s size, so it’s not too out of the question. Probs not the most requested civ by any means, but it’s up there.

Brazil however is one of the countries with the most players, it may legitimately be close to the most requested. But other than that the most requested are, like, Persia, Siam, Korea for whatever reason, and then Poland.

But there’s also a lot of people that don’t want colonial civs like Brazil at all. While civs like Persia are far less controversial so there’s basically no one that doesn’t want Persia.

Except those who confuse with ancient Persia not acknowledging Safavid and Ashfarid Persia (yes those comments unironically actually exist in Discord and the forums)

Most of those people still want Persia. They just think it would be full of elephants.

TBF, it was mostly hated because 2/3rds of the pack were free mods that the company tried to sell people or because people didn’t (or couldn’t) read.

The top 3 request people had since the game was announced was:

Persia

Poland

Italy

It wasn’t even really close, those 3 dominated the conversation and still do. When people talk about lost opportunities they usually mention Persia and the promised but not delivered DLC with Poland. No one except people who absolutely wanted something else was disappointed when the DLC was announced.

They weren’t even mentioned before the USA was added, many people still think the US and Mexico are silly civs that don’t fit the timeframe.

Truth is the only ones i really see wanting these civs are from south america (and half of the time debating which south american country should take priority). The people beyond south america i see asking for these civs are the sort of “AOE3 needs 50 new civs, let me list them all”, the sort of “i have no priority listing because i expect all of them”.

If you actually had told people “You will get 6 civs added via DLC, pick” Brazil and Argentina just would not have made the list, i am not even sure either Mexico or USA would have.

If i where to guess what the 6 most wanted civs were without my own biases then i would say:

Italy

Poland

Persia

Korea

Ethiopia

USA (? really up to debate what the 6 would be if i am honest, but i am very confident in the others)

I think if I were tasked with designing an American civ for AoE3, I would have done a 13 Colonies/Revolutionary War America.

Gatling Guns put it at ~Civil War era, which while fun is outside the majority of the timeline.

On the military front, they could have leaned into the wilderness warfare tactics that the colonists learned (I believe) largely from the native Americans which probably changed warfare.

On the economic front, there would have been a lot of options. Potentially including free but slower researching techs as a default benefit.

My pick would be:

  • Italy
  • Poland
  • Persia
  • Thailand
  • Ethiopia
  • Kongo

They still could form an European DLC, an Asian DLC and an African DLC.

But to be fair, the newly introduced federal mechanics, and the United States and Mexico that adopt it, are fun and relatively accurate, while the designs of Asian civs, on the other hand, are filled with too many stereotypical designs, such as wonders and monk heroes. With the benefit of hindsight, I might not mind replacing Persia and Thailand mentioned above with the United States and Mexico, even though I agree that we should not have too many revolutionary states competing with other candidates for the spots.

bros, I have to say, I love new civs, too. I don’t like play campaigns. But you know, only we core players want civs, the light players don’t care. They just want to play campaigns and uninstall games. That’s why I argue for campaign dlc. Less works and sell better can save AOE3 and give us a chance to see more civs dlc in the future.
