Incorrect Translations for Age of Mythology: Retold - Immortal Pillars DLC

C’est corrigé, merci.

I believe the correct translation of “Gatherer” (as in hunter-gatherer) is “cueilleur”.

Isn’t the name of the Ge Halberdier incorrect? A Chinese “ge” is a dagger-axe, whereas a Chinese halberd is a “ji”.

The Compendium entry for the unit has been copied from the Halberdier in Tale of the Dragon, but with “ji” replaced with “ge”.

Chinese halberds called “ji” evolved from the dagger-axe, a weaponized version of a harvesting scythe.

That was correct when it was about the ji but is wrong when it refers to the ge, which is the same thing as the dagger-axe.

Chinese halberds called ‘ge’ evolved from the dagger-axe, a weaponized version of a harvesting scythe.

I know very little about ancient China so please enlighten me if I’m wrong.

Issue:

I had one of the new relics in one of my AI skirmishes and it had the right name but the “Free Pegasus” relic description, at least in the german translation.
For the people which don’t want to spoiler themselfs don’t look at the pictures!

The correct translation for Favor is “Gunst”, not “Gefallen”.

Thanks. I will.
This forum is very confusing.

Hi, there is many error in Italian Translation:

In the Selection Pantheon Menu, we have “Cinese”, but the correct term is “Cinesi” and we have Hades technology “Pece Rovente” that in the all game is “Dardi Incendiari”;

the technology “Volere di Crono” says that it transforms the “Ciclopi” in “Ciclopi anziani” (in singular, “Ciclope Anziano”) but the translation in game reports “Ciclopi Maggiori”, that is plural and incorrect;

Ares’ Technology “L’arco dell’orrore di Enio” could be translated in “Arco dell’orrore di Enio”, because the other two (Deimos and Phebos) have not the article in the name;

Helios’ Technology “Pietrificazione” has an error: in the game, we have no text in the unity as passive ability that explain it, when is it researched. I have no imagine here.

Issue:

Here are some french translation errors I noticed when the DLC “Heavenly Spear” was released:

1) On the main menu, on the button for the arena of the gods, there is an ‘Update’ banner.

“Mettre à jour” means ‘To perform an update’
The correct translation, to indicate that the game mode has been updated, is “Mise à jour”.
NB: String id concerned: STR_AOTG_UPDATE_RIBBON_TEXT

2) The names of many Japanese medium units are incorrect. The word ‘Intermédiaire’ is used instead of ‘moyen’. Only for Samurai, Shinobi and Yumi cavalry. The other units don’t have this error.

NB: String ids concerned: STR_UNIT_MEDIUM_SAMURAI_NAME, STR_UNIT_MEDIUM_SHINOBI_NAME, STR_UNIT_MEDIUM_YUMI_HORSE_ARCHER_NAME

After the patch, there are some mistranslations in the Korean language. Most of them are kind of weird, and players will be awkward to understand. I’d like to report any mistranslations that need a fix.

First thing that I’d like to report is about ‘Norse’. As you can see in the screenshot, in Copendium and Civ Introduction Trailer, Norse are written in ‘북유럽’ in Korean, and if you translate that word into English again, it is interpreted in ‘Northern Europe’. Frankly speaking, Norse was ‘북유럽’ in the Legacy game, but when it came to Retold, it was correctly interpreted in ‘노르드’, which is a proper name for its civilization. In other parts of the game, it’s correctly translated as “노르드”, but these two places alone are mistranslated.

Second, there is an issue where 1 word in the Advanced Fortification upgrade description have not been translated at all across all pantheons (including Japanese pantheon as well). As you can see, a highlighted word is scripted in English, rather than in Korean. Highlighted word is a word which shows each civ’s fortress-type building (which means, for example, if you see in Atlantean Palace Advanced Fortification upgrade, it is written in ‘왕궁’ instead of ‘Palace’).

Third, there is a weird translation mechanism in Chu Ko Nu unit. As you can see in the screenshot, the highlighted word (만들기) is translated to ‘Make’ in English. So if you see the Chu Ko Nu UI, it is said ‘Make Chu Ko Nu’, instead of 'Medium Chu Ko Nu’ or ‘Champion Chu Ko Nu’. Base Chu Ko Nu doesn’t have this, but when the player researches its line upgardes, that word pops up… Please fix this typo error, this is really awkward to see.

Forth, in Retold, some units have siege attack which does tremendous amount of damage against the buildings. And the correct translation for ‘Siege Attack’ in Korean is ‘공성 공격력’. However, in most case, the siege attack is translated to ‘때리기 공격’.

스크린샷 2025-10-01 215004

This appear in all units’ UIs and upgrades’ descriptions that have a word ‘Siege Attack’ in it. And this is very weird mistranslation because ‘때리기 공격’ in English is ‘Slapping Attack’, which doesn’t make any sense. I mean, how come a siege unit does a hand-slapping damage against enemy buildings…

Fifth, it seems that the game uses two words ‘호플리테스’ and ‘홉라이트’ when translating the word ‘Hoplite’ in Korean. In fact, both of these words are correct(?). It’s simply a matter of whether you pronounce it like the former, as in Greek, or read it with the English pronunciation, as in the latter. Nevertheless, I’d like to ask devs to decide which of the two words are you going to use in game. To give you more information, in Legacy, ‘Hoplite’ was translated in ‘홉라이트’ which is a English pronunciation.

And lastly, the Heavy Line Upgrade. I’d like to inform that this issue was existed ever since the game was released last year…! So, when infantry, cavalry and ranged units researched Medium Line Upgrade, eventually player can research Heavy Line Upgrade. Now, Heavy Line Upgrade is translated to ‘고급 ~’ and any units that have researched Heavy Line Upgrade should be shown as ‘고급 ~’ ,respectively. So if the Greek player researched Heavy Archer Upgade and produces toxtoes out of the Archery Range building, the toxotes should be shown to ‘고급 톡소테스’ which is proper translation of ‘Heavy Toxtoes’.

However, this is not a case at all. And this happens to all pantheons. Yes, ALL PANTHEONS. When player researches Heavy Line Upgrade, the unit’s name will be displayed as ‘중형 ~’ instead of ‘고급 ~’. This is incorrect translation, and I presume that the word ‘Heavy’ is being perceived not in the sense of “heavy” in terms of quality improvement, but rather in the sense of “Heavy” in terms of weight—light or heavy. Please fix this issue asap, as this mistranslation hasn’t been fixed at all even though some Korean player reported this issue.

스크린샷 2025-10-01 211844

Even the Heavy Cavalry Line Upgrade’s UI and description in highlighted is saying as if the cavalry unit’s weight gets heavier when researching the upgrade…

That’s it for the report. Please fix all mistranslations that I’ve reported in later patch. I appreciate your efforts and look forward to seeing prompt action taken on this matter.

I have updated the document tracking bad translations of the French version:

There have been quite a few corrections since last time (Thanks for that!). Unfortunately, the section concerning the Immortal Pillars DLC has still not been fixed (even though there are terrible errors in the names of the medium, heavy, and champion Chu ko nu).

Futhermore, I added new lines to the document:

-One line concerns an old error that persisted for a few strings regarding “les résultats des pistes” to “accuracy”, probably related to the Arena of the Gods.

-In the title of the load menu window: “Charger le menu” must be “Charger une partie”

-In the description of the Advanced Fortification technology: The names of the various fortifications have been left in English in the description (Fortress/Migdol Stronghold/Hill Fort/Palace).

-Another mistake that has already been spotted earlier, but still not corrected, is the translation of Fortification, the keyword for towers and fortress. It was translated as “Muraille fortifiée” (fortified wall) without any logic. Especially since this keyword does not necessarily concern walls. The best translation for “Fortification” in french is simply “Fortification”.I am mentioning this here because it is a significant error that appears in a large number of texts (35 strings) and is likely to reappear when new content is added (with Japanese, for example).

Otherwise, I’m tired of seeing fixes take so long (it’s been a year now). I’ll create a mod in parallel to fix this. I’ll always keep my translation error report file up to date, as I prefer it to be done officially.
