Independence mode tuning.

Hi everyone,

I’m primarily an AoE2 player who jumped into AoE3 specifically because of Independence mode. It’s the only mode I play, and I’m really enjoying the “no Home City” twist it brings.

That said, I wanted to ask if Independence mode is planned to receive more balance tuning. Right now, some civ bonuses feel clearly overpowered or underpowered. Some just don’t make sense like the USA getting Advanced Saloons, but without the outlaw upgrades that normally make Saloons worthwhile. As it stands, the outlaw units feel pretty useless with high pop count.

Another thing I’ve noticed is that the USA is a civ that often changes its playstyle during a match when using Home Cities, but in Independence mode it doesn’t have that same flexibility when aging up. Are there plans to allow different age up bonuses “if” more tuning is coming to Independence mode?

I agree with you. Since the United States and Mexico advance through federal states in Standard mode, their bonuses could vary depending on which state is chosen. In Independent mode, each civilization could instead receive a unique bonus depending on the age up.

Civilizations like Japan already has a very strong Age up bonus in Independent mode (actually no changes, it’s the same as standard mode). In comparison, other civilizations receive only 300 or 400 food, (depending on the Age up). That is a significant difference, so we need stronger Age up bonuses for some of the civilizations.
