just a quick poll which i might send forward to the devs just out of curiousity and cause i think there would be still time to add/rework/change this “smaller” thing and it would be in my opinion at least immersive.
its about the unit caladria. don’t get me wrong, i like the unit and how it looks in retold (really good!) but retold seems to not change much about caladria and it will be still a not attacking MAIN myth unit for a minor god - which also (if we are that nitpicky) never really fitted a water/ocean themed god.
my personal idea is that since caladria can fly/is very mobile and doesn’t attack she would be a great scout for all atlantean major gods/titans. especially since oracles now have a new, unique and more responsible job regarding gaining favour.
also i want to mention i got this idea when i saw the great new rework of water myth units and that they are now not part of a minor god anymore and instead or recruitable for every major god. which is in my opinion a really cool and very useful idea.
but now some of you might ask: “but what can we add instead of caladria?” - and thats a good question to be honest with you.
i personally could see Naiads as myth units for him which are basically female water spirits, they could attack with a range water projectile and would be maybe similar in size like Lampedes. sirens would be another idea. flying units which hunt above and near water. more aggressive and flying but you could make them walk and add wings (since other myth units are more creative interpreted aswell). they could have a scream like a weaker version of nemeian lion as a special.
the things which would speak against all this are: - maybe not enough time (?) - nostalgia fans who don’t want to change stuff even stuff which objectively can be improved on - that oracles still are the scouts (which would be strange to be scouts and responsible for gaining favour and are a quite weak unit (except for the very early game) - maybe some reasons someone wants to add cause i don’t have any other serious reaons which would speak against the idea of making caladria a scout and add a different myth unit instead.
but what do you think?
Would the idea work to make Caladria the main scout unit for all Atlanteans? And would you like the idea to give Oceanus an objectively thematically better fitting, a bit more aggressive unit?
I don’t know man really cool idea but there are already so many changes man…
Damn! I really like this idea and the suggestions i want to support this and hope it might end up ingame!
What is wrong with you?! Don’t touch my precious old AoM! Like it or not i got used to it - deal with it!
I need to think about it. It looks like an interesting idea but i am not quite certain yet. Maybe if i adjust a few things here and there… let’s see…-
Well, in option 4 saying “your generally good idea” is feeding the consumer a little bit, telling them that the answer is good.
And option 2 makes anyone who picks it sound like they’re throwing their toys away in a strop. It’s worded to make them sound immature.
Just feedback man, all in good faith.
Maybe for option 2 in future say something like “I don’t think Caladria needs changing, it has its place and works well as an atlantean healer”. Obviously not the best response but just an off-the-cuff one.
I think we should wait to play the new Atlantians before we discuss it further. I’ve heard a bit about the Caladrias getting a bit of a rework, still healing units but also slowing down enemy units.
Flying units can’t scout for herdables either, with your ideas the atlantean player we’ll end up with 0 converted herdables in archaic age.
On the other hand, making a flying unit like Caladria able to scout for herdables will make her unfair compared to the other scout units, just because of her ability to fly over cliffs, water etc.
If you let her sit and fly like the roc unit? I think the new roc is a great idea/improvement which could get used for other units.
if you let her scout than land to convert herdables (which btw is a good point!) this would solve many issues maybe many of you have.
if she lands she is vulnerable cause she can’t fight back and is very squishy
you even could let her idle in one position when she lands like the roc unit to make her even more vulnerable (kinda like high risk/high reward)
still not convinced? well on the other hand, we still don’t know how the favour mechanic for oracles exaclty works. they could make oracle still be the scout which also gathers favour like kataskopos. and then add caladria really “just” like pegasus. could work well aswell (for some here maybe even better)
i would be open for both ideas personally.
but thanks for pointing these things out. forgot to get into that.
Oracles are changed to generate favor in Retold. Or at the very least, that change was implied. But you are right. Egyptian priests with their summoned obelisks that grant a lot of sight did escape my mind.
Atlanteans scouting using the unit with basically the least amout of sight in the entire game always seemed silly to me. But there are several things about the Atlanteans I’d change, if it was up to me.
Top of that list would be the pet donkey. Every Atlantean villager always has this pet donkey, and I think it looks silly. I don’t mind them not needing dropsites, but the decision to visually depict that with a pet donkey with a box on its back… It could have been a box that appears next to their feet while they’re doing their jobs, or something.
I don’t think Microsoft will even consider changing that. But maybe I’ll look into modding and do it myself.
There is a mod for Extended Editions I really like, that reskins the Llama caravan to a dwarf elephant, which references both the legend of Atlantis and the biologic phenomenon of insular dwarfism, while the Llama doesn’t actually seem to have an actual connection to Atlantis. It also adds the other caravan animals as wild animals in the editor. I hope someone recreates this mod, at least the dwarf elephand caravan part.
But I have gone way off topic. Sorry.
Back to topic. A. Egyptian priests are not almost blind. B. Oracles don’t build buildings that have sight. They just stand there and gain eyesight. When I play as Atlanteans in EE, I don’t build a single oracle. I use those that I get for free at the start of the game, and use them until I build military units, and from then on, I use them for scouting, completely ignoring the oracles.
While the Caladrias flying is useful for scouting, as evidenced by the pegasus, I see their value in their healing ability, which is why I keep them as far from enemy archers or ranged heroes as I can.
Before advocating for changes, we have to find out if the caladria will be finally useful in combat with this new ability and if players will make more of them.
If this happens then there’s no point in changing her purpose.
Just a quick question: did some of you guys played attys oceanos with Caladria?
I saw her channeling which looked like her new slow in some gameplay footage but I didn’t see anything significant or visually noticeable. Still think she have a staff which channels lightbeams or being a scout for all atty gods would fit the unit too even tho I think if she weirdly enough stays as the main myth unit for oceanos then she should have some more usefulness than being a fragile healer which now even more easily can be shot down.
But again I would like to know impressions and how useful and viable her slow was even I am quite biased.
