When they created the Ottomans, did they know that the civilization would be very popular due to its characteristics and play style?

Why, in a game originally based on the conquest of the Americas, did they prefer to add the Lakota and Haudenosaune as playable civilizations instead of the true civilizations like the Incas and Mayans, who did reach the level of complexity to become civilizations?

Italy is content cut from the legacy game. Why wasn’t the civilization really released in detail?

How did they come to the conclusion that Japan needed a small nerf to the shipping curve?

I followed Sandy on twitter. He often share something interesting while developing AOE series. He said he love AOE3 best.
But I really want to know, is it true that Bruce Shelly said AOE3 is.a big mistake?

He didn’t work in TAD.

Yes. That’s not the entire quote though.

I can’t find the original interview. All I can find are the same articles, they might purposely distort Bruce’s ideas, and always be quoted to attack AOE3 by some AOE3 haters. Do you have a link to the original interview?

The original source was an interview published in an article. Why is only a video acceptable as fact?

I wrote a wrong word. Not ā€˜the some article’ but 'the same article. That means I can’t find the original interview article. So you mean the original article can only be seen on a paper?

I guess I misunderstood.

And I mistakenly said print. It’s on the Internet.

I think the devs will not give AOE3 anything new, although I hope it.

Either way, Sandy won’t be involved as he left the video game industry after 2009.

When will the video be posted on Youtube?

I made a video base on that interview last night. Maybe there will be more than 20k views finnally.

Because the Lakota and Haudenosaunee did become empires in their own rights - the Lakota controlled vast areas of the central great plains. The Haudenosaunee controlled a huge chunk of New England. Each controlled vassal tribes and dictated trade across their lands.

They weren’t as populous as other civs in the game, but they were no less influential in their areas.

They wanted all 3 native nations to play differently. The Sioux added a cavalry based faction which AoE III was kind of missing. The Inca and the Aztecs are both quite similar from a militairy perspective so adding both would have felt redundant.

Not to mention they likely wanted the campaign to feature the new additions which would have been very difficult for the Inca. They would have to come up with a pretty convoluted reason for the Black family to travel to South America and stay there for an entire campaign. They already established that the Black family was involved in the Transoceanic railroad to the west so a conflict with the Sioux is pretty much unavoidable in the 1860s after the American Civil War.

Also though the Inca resisted for long the politics are very one-note. Unlike the Iroquois who had extremely complex politics. They also left a very significant legacy.

I do agree though that it would have been fun to draw attention to such an obscure civilization. However creating a story around them would have been very hard. That’s likely also the reason the Aztecs don’t feature in the main story. However they had quite a large role in Blood campaign so that’s a little more acceptable. If they were to include an Inca campaign it would have to be Morgan’s son and John’s father, Phillip, but why would he go to South America in the 1720s?

The Inca, though strong were nothing more than a hinderance to the Spanish.

They were discarded because they discarded the entire European continent and since the Italians didn’t have colonies, well, goodbye very good… the Swedes went directly due to lack of time and because they already had to launch the game…

Any news on when this will take place and be posted?

I do not understand, what happened? Why is there no interview? Why it ā€œAsk Sandy Petersenā€ is suspended or closed? There is a similar situation on the ā€œaoezoneā€ forum.

Not at all similar. Sandy simply decided to stop replying on AoEZone after a while.

Yeah I guess it just never happened in the end. Sad.

THE FIRST PART OF THE INTERVIEW IS HERE !!
