Irish Revolution (project to save material cut from the beta)

Greetings to all forum members. As the post title suggests, this is a good-faith letter encouraging our developers to revisit the Irish Revolution project so that it doesn’t fall into oblivion or end up in the “cut content” bin. First, I want the developers to know that their work is vital; thanks to them, we have fresh content again, and the material added in the new Baltic DLC is excellent. Of course, as with any new release, it is understood that adjustments and balancing for the new additions—as well as bug fixes—will happen over time; however, that doesn’t diminish the great job they’ve done with the DLC overall. Getting back to the main topic: as many here have likely noticed, beta files revealed content regarding an Irish Revolution. I had the chance to examine this in greater detail on the official page hosting the game’s cut content. Reviewing the cards and units planned for this revolution, I found the material fascinating and exciting. Seeing the situation, I couldn’t just sit idly by while the content was shelved; I quickly took the initiative to rework the material, aiming to offer the developers new ideas and suggestions on how this revolution could be implemented—all while respecting and building entirely upon their original work. Ultimately, I believe this new revolution is too good to be discarded and forgotten. That is why I am asking all forum members to leave comments; I hope to encourage the developers to pick up this excellent project again—something that has been on my mind constantly since the new DLC beta was announced. We need to ensure this content isn’t lost and that it returns in a future patch. I reiterate: the revolution concept features great ideas and incorporates fascinating units that shouldn’t go unnoticed. I hope the developers take the time to look at this post and see some of the ideas being shared here, so they can appreciate the full scope of the work that was discarded—work that was underway during the beta but, due to strange circumstances, never saw the light of day.

Based on the developers’ work, I have attached the cards along with their respective text—which matches the material from the discarded content. However, I have taken the initiative to add some new cards and modify the parameters of certain originally planned cards so that they now reflect better balance.

This is part of the historical documentation of some units of the Irish Revolution:

Some great ideas here. Hopefully the developers bring back the Irish revolution in a later patch. I do have some suggestions to include for the Irish revolution deck. Mostly eco-related buffs.

Erin go Bragh - Ships 6 Irish Citizens with unique visuals; Irish Citizens can be trained at Town Centers for 70 coin. Fishing Boats can be trained at Docks. Native units are 10% cheaper. Outlaws and Mercenaries are 10% cheaper.

Potato Farming - Gives a trickle of 2.00 food per sec. Villagers gather food from Mills, Farms, Folwarks, Fields, Haciendas, and Rice Paddies 10% faster; Haciendas auto gather food 10% faster.

Irish Shamrock - Gives a trickle of 2.00 XP per sec.

Saint Patrick’s Day - Sends 2 Church wagons and increases the church build limit by 2. Also ships 1000 food.

Céilí - All villagers move 10% faster and have 10% more health

Corned Beef - Villagers gather from huntable animals and livestock 25% faster; huntable animals and livestock lasts 15% longer

Captured Rockets - Sends 3 Rockets

Irish Travelers - Sends 3 Trading Post Wagons. Trading Post cost -30%. Arrives fast.

@Soaring_Crow Those are excellent ideas that could certainly be implemented. Hopefully, down the line, they’ll add the Irish Revolution as a revolutionary option for the British; honestly, I feel that with the inclusion of the House of Stuart, the Irish Revolution would be more than justified.

Might not be as balanced as the one the devs make but there is a mod with Irish civ in it. Its called ‘abstract nations’ on the mod workshop and it adds a whole bunch of new civs to the game including Ireland. Also the guy says he is apparently open to balance suggestions even. Check it out.

Thanks, I’ll look for it and check it out.

Here’s some gameplay footage of the Irish civ from the Abstract Nations Mod. Credit to Unstoppable Streletsy for the gameplay.

This mod looks interesting, although I feel it doesn’t fully reflect the developers’ original vision for the Irish revolution that was cut from the beta. I think it’s highly unlikely the developers would actually bring the Irish civilization to life—especially given the current situation with the layoffs at Microsoft, sadly.
:downcast_face_with_sweat:

I don’t know if the mod creator was inspired by the cut Irish revolt. Thing is that the mod is a straight up civ rather than a revolt so it’s going to work differently. It’s a fairly recent addition.

The developers did the Irish revolt concept already they just never actually applied it. It’s up in the air on whether or not it will come back in a patch update. We’ll see.

I just realized he also adds the Irish revolution cut content to the British as a revolt in the mod too. It might be a bit closer to their vision than the new civ. Check it out  .

I’ll check it out; that does sound quite interesting.
