Is real that all people only want to play Arabia?

Look, there is a lot being said and being repeated.

I can actually understand that in the new system the arabia queue will be shorter than opt-in, because I think it too heavily promotes someones selected map and essentially drags other people into it. I might have been comparing to the current system.

If with opt-in queue times are longer because everyones wishes are respected, I’m sure that’s a positive thing.

This is why as an arabia player myself, I think it’s selfish to like the system for that reason. Because you know that it will be worse for people that enjoy less popular maps. And still not guarantee any controll over maps.

You value time.
I value controll and respecting player preference.
(Edit: Thank you @HenryTheLion123 for reminding me in your future post that opt-in also allows fast times, when you select more maps.)

I don’t find forced immediate times a reasonable demand when you understand the consequence. Imposing your preferences onto another player.

You believe “the system” will gravitate towards only arabia. No, YOU gravitate towards short queue times. Imagine if islands was the most popular and I would be saying “oh now I have to opt-in on islands because otherwise I’ll have to wait longer” :joy:

You are the one that opts-in on popular maps. Overall It’s bizarre to me because the new system will exactly do that for you… Much much much more arabia, also for those who don’t want it all the time  If you don’t enjoy arabia, you-are-F*ed!

I believe you’re someone that doesn’t want to play arabia all the time, well I wish you a lot of luck. You might come to understand why it’s better to wait a bit longer to get what you want.

@Szaladon

Imagine being forced to play on a map you don’t want to play on.

This post made by SP player gang.

I can understand that as an AI slayer this is hard for you to relate with. What I don’t understand is why your SP referenced opinion should matter on this MP issue.

Ps; I’d love to see your gameplay.

Not sure how that’s a problem, as @TohoBuWaha said, popular maps are not popular because some evil person decided to label them “popular” in order to be annyoing to everyone, but because there are a lot of people who like that map ?!

Opt-in would allow you to choose time over control, you just have to decide how many maps you want to pick. If you value time, then pick all maps; if you want only one map only pick that map but at the cost of having to wait longer.

I can understand why @WoodsierCorn696 wouldn’t like this, because he doesn’t want to play popular maps and doesn’t want to wait for long. So instead he’d prefer to force everyone to play unpopular maps as well so he doesn’t have to wait for a game.
I don’t know about you, but to me that seems pretty selfish.

I was just joking around. If your interested I can consistently beat the Hardest HD AI. The Hardest DE does not really fit my relaxed playstyle, might try to tackle it on later though.

I fought my way up on HD as a Boomer 11.

You will play popular maps like arabia or arena more often. But the reason is simple: they are the best .

There should be unlimited ban option so you can ban arabia or arena if you don’t like them.

Some of you just forgot that there are two kind of groups in the ranked queue. Both who want to enjoy ranked system.

  1. Players who want variety in the maps they played.
  2. Players who want to play Arabia only.

These are the two extremes. Ofcourse there are people somewhere in the middle.

In the end you will settle somewhere in the middle. You try to make a system that makes both happy. I think the upcomming system is a nice compromise. Players who likes Arabia only, will get many games on Arabia. If 2 players meet who both prefer Arabia, they always get Arabia. If one of the players want to play Arabia and the other player didnt ban the map, you will also play Arabia in most cases. Only if the other player would ban Arabia, you have to play another map. Based on the reactions Arabia players are great player with high elo and everyone in that range would love Arabia. So you will face mostly Arabia only. So Arabia players will be happy. If you want variety? Just ban Arabia and you can get easily in non Arabia maps. So also players who like variety will be happy. If you also enjoy playing Arabia, then you can even unban Arabia and play on Arabia sometimes.

Like i said the opt-in system is much more geared towards Arabia only if you compare it to the upcoming changes. I just explaind this in my previous posts. This is not because many players like Arabia. I fully understand that they will and end with only Arabia. But also players that love Arabia but also variety will end up playing Arabia instead of variety maps. Why would someone wait for 15 minutes to get into an islands game if they also can get into an Arabia game in 2 minutes? They like to play both, but in the end, they just play almost only Arabia. That will result in even more waiting time for for example Islands. These kind of players just end up playing Arabia only in an opt in system, while the also would love to play different maps.

I like the claims users make about me. I wouldnt like Arabia at all based on some of the post and i would be too bad to understand why Arabia is popular. I can tell you: Both are wrong. Arabia is a great map and i do enjoy playing that map. I dont wannan play unpopular maps only. I just enjoy playing other maps too. It seems like some of you dont understand that you can and like Arabia and like other maps as well. But, yeah, if i just get back this stupid false statements of users, then i am out of this discussion.

for me, yes. Although i like to play other maps a few times, a map like golden pit gets super repetitive after playing it for ~3-5 times in a week. on arabia on the other hand I can happily play hundreds of consecutive games because the map generation (wood/resource/hill/cliff generation) makes games unpredictable and fast paced.

When i was sub 1200 rated player I thought it was a shame everybody played arabia, but now that I’m higher rated, I understand how to play certain maps and I’m getting bored of it quickly. I cannot enjoy other maps as much as arabia. I do like the occasional four lakes/islands/cenotes/serengeti though.

I’m not sure if it’s already been posted in this thread before or not, but have a look at the results right now for the Team Game community map pool voting.

The map which has by far the most votes is Valley, which is EXACTLY the same as Arabia with some small pools and zebras in the middle…

I think there’s your answer - everyone loves Arabia!!! (because it’s the most balanced, fair, and competitive map)

It’s less that I only want to play Arabia so much as I’m sick and tired of certain maps that are heavily skewed towards certain civs. Playing e.g. Tatars or Cumans on Four Lakes is idiotic, for example. I like diversity of maps but the lack of random civ picking (will be fixed in this coming patch) and the specific selection of maps often makes me want to ban everything but Arabia and Islands. It also doesn’t help that I don’t like a lot of the gimmicks that some of the maps (see: Acropolis) have. Lack of building space is truly infuriating.

There were plenty of Arena, Nomad and BF only players on Voobly. Opt-in would allow these players to play the maps they want as well.

Not if they ban Arabia as you suggested above.

Because they enjoy Islands and don’t mind waiting a bit longer for a game. Of course there will be more waiting time for Islands because most people don’t want to play it. That’s the consequence of wanting to play an unpopular map: you have to be patient and wait for someone else to want to play too.

Of course, but if you want to play unpopular maps then you shouldn’t expect to get a match in the same time as Arabia. Popular maps are popular because people want to play them, if you want variety, fine, opt-in would allow that, but why do you want the majority to play maps they don’t want to for the sake of variety?

I should add that I don’t only play Arabia. I do enjoy other maps, but I don’t expect the majority of players to play maps they don’t want to just so I don’t have to wait as long.

I never play Arabia. Didn’t realise it was so popular.

I hope the same. I really like Arabia but I enjoy the variety.

Most people like arabia since it was the standard for 1v1’s for a long time. I like the idea with the map pool and bans with the favorite map added in.

Personally I was never into arabia anyways. I was too much of an arena clown to play that much open maps in general. But the new favorite map system would help with how people enjoy the multiplayer.
